Art Journal page…….

Standard

So I have a couple of ladies on my Scrap ‘n With Flair design team that are amazing as doing up Art Journalling pages with multi-mediums.  This little niche has intrigued me for some time now and I’ve been racking their brains and asking a hundred questions to find out what I’d need to try something like this myself.  I found out I already had a lot of the tools on hand already that are used in art journalling, so it was just a matter of purchasing a few bottles of Acrylic Paint and I was off to try my hand at a page.  When I was at the local Dollar Store picking up the paint, some art brushes, etc., they had these 8.5 x 11 pads of sheets of canvas paper.  I bought it and that’s what I used for my page today.  I’m still not sure about it but thought, what the heck.  This whole crafting and blogging is supposed to be a growth experience so, let me just step outside of my comfort zone for a few minutes and I’ll show you what I did.

There is lots of texture and layers on this page and I tried to get some pics of the main things to show you.  Here’s what the whole page looks like…

I started out with a 8.5 x 11 sheet of canvas I’d purchased in a pad from the local Dollar Store.  I attached random pages from an old book, a piece of music sheet DP that I crumpled before I attached it down onto the front of the canvas with my Claudia Hellmuth Multi-Medium Matte.  Once that was dry I put a coat of my Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Picket Fence all over the front of the canvas.  Once that was dry I added a second coat to give it a bit more coverage.   Then I started to attach my random pieces onto the front.  A few pieces from my favorite paper napkins, another scrap of music sheet paper, a couple of cut outs from making my Fab Scraps chipboard album, some chipboard hearts, a couple of pieces of lace and some flowers made out of paper towel I’d misted using my Lindy’s spray mists.  I took my Ultimate Grunge background stamp set from Tim Holtz and stamped random images onto the front with my Rusty Hinge, Dried Marigold, Walnut Stain and Black Soot Distress Inks.  I also took my Dried Marigold and added some strokes of ink directly from the stamp pad.  Added some paint strokes of red acrylic paint and then toned it down a bit with some of my Picked Fence Distress Stain.  Took my Lindy’s Spray Mist in the incandescent Copper and misted the front and then just gave it a couple of short little spritzed to add some bigger blobs of mist.  At the end I took my white acrylic paint and some paper towel and a piece of plastic and randomly dabbed some white onto the front as well.

I know this craft form is not for everyone but as one of the Design Team said, it’s strangely freeing to just slap things onto a page and see what slowly starts to develope…..lol.  Here are some more random close up’s of some of the elements.  I have lots to learn and decided I may as well take you all along for the ride!!

Not sure what my next project will be……I really need to go check in with my friends on SCS before they forget who I am and see what’s been happening on the two challenges I use to participate in…..I wonder if I’ll have to re-introduce myself??!!  :o)

You Tube video

Standard

Hello my fellow crafting blog friends.  If you ever want a lesson in frustration try and do a video recording to post on You Tube…..lol.  Holy cow!!  Some things I learned…….make sure camera is charged…..grrrrr.  Turn off phone so it won’t ring when you’re almost done recording.  Finish recording and then realized I’d recorded  it upside down for the viewers…….that one was a real winner.  Go to upload it to You Tube and spend two days trying to figure out why it won’t download.  Try and sign into You Tube using the wrong sign in account name…..brilliant!!  FINALLY realize the reason it won’t download is because the file is too big as I recorded it in HD……doh!!

As part of my duties on the Scrap ‘n With Flair design team, I have to do one You Tube video a month.  Well, I finally have the first one under my belt.  Definitely some things I’ll do differently next time…….learned allot…..still have lots to learn about it and will improve with each one…..hopefully!!  So, check it out and let me know what you think!!  Here’s the link:

Will I ever be a You Tube star…..probably not but I did kinda have fun doing it and am actually looking forward to doing another one.  As always, I love to hear from you.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

A paper napkin….

Standard

Hello to my blogging friends!  I have a couple of cards to show you using a technique that may or may not actually be a technique…..lol.  A few months ago we had the fabulous Leanne from Scrap ‘n With Flair in Humboldt for a one day, 12 hour Scrap and Yap day.  I wasn’t able to make it to the Scrap and Yap, but I knew that Leanne would be there with her products from her on-line store and I just had to go and play for just a little while and do some shopping!!!  This is where I first saw the Lindy’s  Stamp Gang products and they are fantastic!!  If you don’t know what they are you have to check them out in Leanne’s store.  You’ll see some of them in future projects I’ll be posting…..the colors are incredible!!  This is also where I first saw “I Am Roses” flowers and went home with a nice little bundle of those too……you’ll see these little gems on my card today.  One of the other products I purchased was some Claudine Hellmuth Studio multi-medium matte.  I love the look of the mixed media projects out there and I really want to try to do some of it myself one of these days……just have to get the nerve up to actually try it!!  I did however use my multi-medium matte on these two cards I made using this!

So this is a paper napkin I found while shopping and fell in love with the colors!!  When I brought them home I thought……Oooooo……what nice cards they’d make!!  So yup!  I peeled them apart and started to tear and glue to make some cards!

For this card I tore out just the coffee mug and adheared it to a kraft card front.  What I used to attach it was my Studio multi-medium matte.  It’s really a cool product.  I just took a brush and ‘painted’ some of the matte onto the card from and placed my torn piece of the paper napkin on top and then painted over top of the napkin with the matte as well.  I took my heat tool and used it to dry the medium (as I’m WAY too impatient to wait till it dries overnight).  I took some narrow cream-colored lace and sprayed it with my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Moon Shadow Mist in Burnished Brass and also gave my card from a bit of a spritz as well.  I dried my lace with my heat tool and attached it to the side of the card.  I then took my Ranger Distress Ink in Black Soot and Rusty Hinge and stamped some random background stamps onto the card from using my Tim Holtz Ultimate Grunge background stamp set.  I used the dots and the grid pattern stamps on this card.  This is such a fun set and has funky stamps with a dots pattern, a grid pattern, a crackled glass pattern, random date stamps pattern a checkerboard pattern, bricks pattern and a numbers pattern.  All of these stamps are a sort of distressed, grungy type of pattern and I love them!!  Notice the fabulous pop of color from the three little roses on the corner of the card……I love these little flowers!!  They’re from the I Am Roses line and are just so stinkin’ cute!!  I distressed the edges of the card, added some bling and it’s done!

I took  a look at the napkin again and wanted to incorporate more of the pattern from it and decided to cover the entire front of my next card with it.  Check it out!

I really like how this card turned out.  I used my multi-medium matte on it again and this time I painted it on quite thick and chunky to add some additional dimension to the card.  I spritzed the front of the card and my white paper doily with my same Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist in the Burnished Brass.  I attached the doily to the corner of the card and then grabbed my Tim Holtz Ultimate Grunge background stamps again with my Distress Black Soot ink and stamped randomly with the dots pattern and the multi date stamp pattern.  I had some paper butterflies from Close To My Heart that I also spritzed with my Moon Shadow Mist and then added some stickles to the edges of the wings and some bling down the body.  I took a piece of rusty-brown cardstock and stamped my sentiment onto it, tore the edges and then inked them with my Black Soot.  I attached it to the card using my multi-medium matte to give it the same texture and dimension as the rest of the card. I attached a dangly bling piece from my stash, distressed the edges of the card and tore away at a couple of the corners and it was done!!

So, this was the result of playing with my new product and a paper napkin……let me know what you think!!  You know I love to hear from you!!

My first project to show you using the amazing June kit!!!

Standard

Hello to my blogging friends!!  I’m sorry I’ve been MIA for most of this month…..I came down with a virus that just knocked the crap out of me.  Still not 100% but better than I was!

Have I got a scrapbooking/cardmaking kit to show you!!!  The on-line store that I design for, Scrap ‘n With Flair , has released their June kit and I gotta tell you……it’s fantastic!!  It full of beautiful paper, ribbon, bling, embellishments, flowers, die cuts…..holy cow!!  Here’s a little peek at what the kit includes:

The Kit includes the following:

18 – 12 x 12 double sided papers (which are fantastic…..creams, blacks, a beautiful deep red.  If you like images of bird cages and lace, these are some of the patterns…..there are lots more and they’re all gorgeous)

8 – 8 x 8 double sided papers (these match the larger 12 x 12 papers)

24 inches of lace

12 inches of black flat back bling

1 pkg of Fab Scrap’s Stickers

1 Fab Scrap’s chipboard album

1 pkg of various bling and metal embellishments

1 pkg of variuos I Am Roses flowers (these flowers are beautiful…..if you’ve never seen an I Am Roses flower, you need to!!)

Various die cuts including rosettes.

The flowers aren’t shown in the picture above so here’s a pic of just the package of flowers that’s included…..

These flowers are a mulberry paper flower and can be inked, misted, spritzed, painted….they’re soooo very nice!!

This kit is only $35.00 and is jam packed with some oh so cool goodies!!

Okay, so I’ve been playing with this kit a little bit and have a few projects done and some started.  Here’s a card I made using some of the papers from the kit, a rosette and a couple of the die cuts and black half back bling.  Check it out!

Check out that rosette!!  You get a few of these beauties with different edges and sizes, all ready die cut out for you and perferated, so all you have to do is fold them back and forth, glue the ends together, flatten it out (which is sometimes easier said than done…..lol) and glue it down to a small piece of paper.  I inked the outside edges of this one with my Tim Holtz Ranger Distress ink in Black Soot and adheared it to the top corner of my card.  I inked the top of the flower as well to add some definition to the folds of the rosette.  I topped it off with a black half back pearl (included in the kit) and tadaaaa!!!

The little die cut birds also come in the kit.  They come as a set of 4 and are all attached in a row.  I decided to cut two of them out and use them on this card.  I inked the edges of them with the Black Soot ink and added a small black half back pearl from the kit.  There are also a couple of  ‘stems’ included that I also inked in the Black Soot and adheared to the card to make it look like the stem of the rosette with a branch for the little bird to sit on.  Check out the string of the bling!!  Yup, included in the kit….love it!

So here’s the whole card…….

The Happy Birthday sentiment is a stamp I used from my stash.  I stamped it using the Black Soot ink and then inked the edges of it and pop-dotted it onto the card front.  The top corner looked a little bare so I cut three of the black half back bling off the string and arranged it so it would fit into the corner.  I also pop-dotted the second bird up over the sentiment.

So, there you have it.  My first post as an official Design Team member for Scrap ‘n With Flair.  I hope you like it and as always, I love to read your comments.  I’m off to do some more work on my other little project I’m working on with this kit……till next time!

Huggss,

Yvonne  😉
