The apron challenge

Oh boy…….ever get the feeling you’ve bitten off more than you can chew?!  This is what happened last night.  Over on Tracy’s Mixed Media Mondays Facebook group, she sells these wonderful canvas aprons that are such good quality.  Check them out here if you’re interested in one for yourself!  Now Tracy had this thing (actually, more of an OCD tendency) about not wanting to get any paint on her apron and every Monday when she has her weekly classes on Ustream (come and join us as we have a lot of fun and Tracy rocks out a page each week), we would all bug her and try and get her to put some paint on that apron of hers!!  Well Lori finally came up with a BRILLIANT idea and actually challenged Tracy to an “Apron-Off”.  Check out Lori’s blog here as she did an amazing job on hers.  Anyone that knows Tracy, knows she can’t say no to a challenge, so the two of them were off and painting!!  Check out Tracy’s apron here on her blog…..she also did an amazing job on hers!  I commented on how awesome an idea it was on Tracy’s Facebook group and BAM!!!…..the challenge was put out by Tracy for all of us with an apron to also grab ours and paint it.  Sooooo…….because Tracy has been really getting me to step outside my comfort zone with my painting and just “Let It Go” and paint  (Although my apron already had a bit of paint and Gesso on it)……I had to take up the challenge as well.  I consider Tracy a great friend and I value our friendship so very much.  So here it is……does it not just scream out as a blank canvas begging to be used.

One VERY BIG blank canvas.  One VERY BIG INTIMIDATING blank canvas and by FAR the biggest one I’d ever painted on.  But I’d committed to Tracy to paint mine… here it was, just staring at me.  I don’t own any fabric paints and only have the cheap Dollar Store acrylic paints to paint with (which suits me just fine….except for this project).  So I decided to try and ‘paint’ my apron with some of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays.   I decided to use one of my Flat Fabio sets and these colors:  Luscious Lime, Plumeria Pink , Caribbean Blue and Hibiscus Rose.  Needless to say, once I was done I pretty much have to buy a new set of them as three of the four is now almost empty.  LOL.  I kinda knew what I wanted it to look like when I was finished, but wasn’t really sure how to accomplish it as I’d never ‘painted’ using my sprays before and I wanted the apron to be one cohesive blending of colors.  So I enlisted the knowledge of my good friend and Lindy’s guru Limor Webber.  She just came out with her own set of Lindy’s Stamp Gang products that is a-MAZ-ing and you really do need to check it out…’s awesome! This woman does amazing work and I’m honored to call her a friend.  Here is a link to her blog with the announcement for the launch of the set just last week!  And here’s a link to the Lindy’s store where you can shop for these amazing sprays.  They’re honestly the best ones out there!  Anyway, back to the apron!  So with Limor’s help I got to spraying my apron.  ALOT of water got spritzed onto the apron and ALOT of Lindy’s was also sprayed.  I ended up with one very wet and very colorful apron…..and my heart was pounding as I wasn’t sure I really liked it!!  Into the dryer it went to dry it and see how it looked once dried.  I loved the pocket….but the rest of the apron was just too light…..sooooo out came the water and more spray!!  And I went to it.  I was already committed by this point and really didn’t have much to lose…lol.  Back into the dryer it went and back to pacing and sweaty palms as I waited for it to dry once again.  While it dried I took a piece of cardboard and drew out a flower, cut it out with my craft knife and had my stencil for the flowers I wanted to put along the bottom of my apron.  Apron was dried… were then sprayed on… acrylic paint was added and TA DAAAA……

… apron was done!!  I loved it…..was sooooo happy I did it and had very colorful hands and fingers.  I think I’ll be pink and green for a few days as I try and wash it all off….lol.   I added some black paint splatter once I was done and called it finished!  I’m also wondering if I’m going to end up with some colorful undies the next time I dry a load of laundry in my dryer now……ooppsss.

Here’s some close ups of the apron:

Sister’s Chipboard album with an Altered Box

Hello blog family!! I had a very dear friend come for a visit last weekend and we had a crafting good time!!!  She arrived on Thursday, I took Friday off and we spent a wonderful long weekend just having a blast!!  Another one of my very good friends came over each day (and into the wee hours) to join us and we spent a lot of time laughing and just having soooo much fun!!

I’m sitting in my Crafting Therapy Room with a wonderful cup of tea right now and editing my latest YouTube video.  A girlfriend at work asked me to make her three Chipboard albums in Altered Boxes to give to her sisters for Christmas.  I finished the first album and thought I’d share it with you.  I had so much fun putting this together and dreaming up the little goodies I put on each page.   Here’s what the top of the box looks like:

Check this out!!!  I covered the whole box with patterned paper and then added layers and layers of goodness!  There’s cheesecloth, black tulleing, flowers, bling, ribbon……need I say more?!!  Oh, and check out that butterfly in all it’s glittery goodness.  I just love that butterfly and of course… I Am Roses roses…..they’re a must!!  Here’s a close up of those beauties…..

And do you see the wonderful black rosette ribbon??!!  I have such a little bit left and I’d love to get my hands on more of it!!  Did you see the pretty little black rose button on the front of the box in between the rosette’s?   It has a piece of black tulleing wrapped around it to keep the lid of the box closed.  It just fits perfectly into the design of the box I think!

Here’s what the album front looks like!

I continued with the black and white theme throughout the whole album.  To the front cover here I started with a half of a doily and then started layering from there.  The blinged out sprig, the pewter butterfly and  my very first zipper flower I’ve made!!  Added some swirly bling, lace and a few rhinestone and the title and ta da!!!!  Album front is done!  Here’s a close up of that cool zipper flower….

I love that flower and can see more of those in my future!!!  For more detailed information and a closer look at the whole project, check out my YouTube video here:

Thanks once again for stopping by for a visit!! I truly love hearing your feedback, so please let me know you were here!  Later!

Hello to my blogging family!  We’re out at the cabin this week……I love fall at the lake!!  The colors are so beautiful.  As usual I packed up some crafting supplies and decided to work on one of my Tim Holtz Composition Boxes I have.  I had sooooo much fun putting this together……although, I think I had just as much fun looking for things to put into it!  I even did a You Tube video on it……so I won’t put a pile of pics into this post.  Here’s what I came up with!

Soooo…….what do you think??!!  Check out my You Tube video on it to get more details and close ups of each of the boxes.   It really was alot of fun to put together.  Here’s a link to my You Tube on this baby……

So, as always I want to tell you how much I truly appreciate your visit to my blog.  Thank you and please feel free to leave a comment!  I’m off……chao for now!

Altered Mouse Trap……and not a used one!!!

Hey there my little blog family!!  I’m experiencing a lesson in total frustration right now as this is the second time I’m typing and uploading this post.  I had it all done……yup…..allll done and poof!!!  It disappeared……ugh!!!!  Soooo, here I go again.  🙂

A couple of weeks ago I saw a post on one of the blogs I follow called “florence and freddie” and Florence is so incredibly talented!! You need to check out her blog:  florence and freddie  She had these wonderful altered mouse traps on her blog and there’s a link to a group called Out of a Hat Creations you have to check out too…..a very talented group.  I fell in love with their mouse trap creations and had to try one for myself! I even did a YouTube tutorial as I made it so you’d see how I put it together.  I did however add the little cluster of flowers to the upper half after I was done videoing… just needed something more than just the key after I had it all done.  This was my first actual tutorial YouTube and I realized as I watched the playback that I say ummm alot!!!

I pulled out my JUNE KIT from Scrapn’ With Flair .  Leanne still has a couple of  kits left so run on over and check it out and grab one before they’re gone!!…’s a fabulous kit with a lot of yummy goodness in it.  Check this little cutie out!!

So??  What do you think?!!  Did you catch my warped sense of humor… little parody on the nursery rhyme ‘Hickory, Dickory, Dock……the mouse ran up the clock’?  Ya I know…..keep my day job…  But I’ll bet you giggled……just sayin’.  ;

Here’s a close up of those oh so cute little clocks and those rockin I Am Roses roses……oh! how I love those roses!!!

Here’s a link to the YouTube video I did on it…..

I also did up a couple of cards using the papers from this kit.  I just love the grungy look of them!

Is that black lace not just to die for?!  It’s included in the kit!  Loving the lace paper too……it’s pop dotted off the front panel to add some depth to the card.  The glittery swirl is from my stash as are the black bling accents in the corners.  The little metal ‘Love’ embellishment is also from my stash and I came across it when I was going through some old packages of embellishments.  It was screaming to be used!

Now how about this black lace??  It’s not included in the kit but I did purchase it from Leanne’s store……soooooooo love it!!.  The bird sticker is included in the kit and the swirl bling is from my stash.  I really like the pop of red on the bottom of the card and it really makes the lace stand out.

So, my friends, that’s it for this post!  Thank you so much for popping in to take a peek…..I do truly appreciate all of you!!  I love to hear your thougths…..don’t be shy.  😉

Until next time……

Graphic 45 A Ladies Diary altered notebook

Hey my little blogging family…..two posts in one day??!!  Holy cow!  This was such a fun project I put together this evening.  I dug into my September kit from Scrapn’ With Flair and had me a great ole time….lol.  I love this kit so much I’m having a hard time cutting into the paper to use it!!!  I just want to hoard it and drool over it and touch it……man I hate it when I do that to the papers I love…..but man oh man it’s hard to use them!

One of the girls I work with won a little 5×7 hardcover kraft notebook at a fun ladies golf night a couple of weeks ago.  It was a Horizon’s Fertilizer notebook and I took one look at its yummy kraft cover and instantly wanted to get my grubby little fingers on it!  Even the pen was covered in kraft paper.  It was seriously screaming at me to alter it!!!!!  I asked her if I could steal it from her and make it better…..well tonight I did just that!  I even covered the pen….lol.  Check this out ladies…….I just love it!

I used my Mod Podge to adhere all the elements to the front of the notebook.  I sanded the edges of the cover to even out the paper and make a seamless edge to the paper and the notebook cover.  I then inked the edges with my Tim Holtz Vintage Photo ink to blend in the white edges of the paper.  I attached the double layer lace from my stash to the edge of the cover.  The title was made using a piece of the paper and some of the alpha stickers included in the kit.  It was distressed using my Tim Holtz distress tool and then inked with the Vintage Photo ink again.  The wonderful Victorian woman image was cut from one of the 8×8 papers, matted onto one of the pieces of paper from the collection on foam pop dots.  All the edges were distressed using my distress tool and inked with my Vintage Photo ink.  Did you check out that pen??  Pretty cool, isn’t it?!!  I Mod Podged a piece of the patterned paper onto it…..I couldn’t leave it a boring kraft color!!!

The little trinkets were attached to a piece of chain with some jump rings.  I’ve had these charms in my stash for a while now and they just needed to be used and find a new home!  I thought they added a nice little addition to the feel of the notebook and the papers.

Before I started to work on this notebook I had full intentions on taking a picture of it so I could do the whole ‘before and after’ shots……..ya, totally forgot to do that.  Oh well, you’ll just have to use your imaginations!!  😉

As always I love to hear from you and what you think.  Thanks so much once again for stopping by and taking a peek at my latest project.  I do soooo appreciate it!  ❤  Until next time……

My new mini Mixed Media altered Art Journal!

Hello to my blogging family!!  So I’ve been dabbling in some mixed media art lately and have been having a blast with it.  It’s honestly so freeing and fun.  And the best part is really, at the end of the day, what you create is truly just for you!  It’s such a freeing way to create and have fun with paint, texture, layers….whatever you want to put on your page!!  I’m on a Facebook page called Monday Nights LIVE with Tracy Weinzapfel Studios and have met some amazing artists and friends.  It’s a great place to go to share what you create and the ladies there are so incredibly supportive and encouraging.  When I posted a picture of my front cover I had one of the ladies request that I do a tutorial to show how I altered the catalogue in order to use it as an Art Journal.  I suggest you grab a cup of coffee or a nice glass of red wine and sit back cause I think this is going to be a long post…  I’ve never done a step-by-step tutorial before so…..thank you Maureen for getting me take yet one more step outside of my comfort zone in my creative journey!!

I recently dug out a Pandora catalogue that I’ve been hanging onto for some time now cause I thought I could use it for something someday……I know!… should see the things I keep cause I think they may work for something I’m creating someday….lol.  Anyway, when I started venturing down this whole mixed media adventure, I came across this little catalogue again and because the pages are a thicker page I thought it would make a great mini Art Journal.  So out came my multi-medium matte gel, my Gesso and some acrylic paints!!  Here’s what I did for the front cover…..

I started out my gluing the front cover and the first three pages together using my multi-medium matte gel to create a thicker more stable page to work with.  (I have step by step pictures to show you what/how I did this in the next segment)  Once that was dry (and because I’m not patient enough to wait for that I use my heat gun to dry it) I put a layer of Gesso on the front cover to create a base for my acrylic paint.  I started to layer on the paint to create the background, free-handed a heart onto a piece of cardstock and painted it red, cut it out, distressed it and glued it to my cover with my multi-medium matte gel.  I continued to add paint layers, added my quote, and used my punchinella, a chevron stamp and an old frayed bristled paint brush to create the last layers and details to the page.  The last thing I did to the cover was to take some watered down white acrylic paint and add the ‘drippage’ from the top of the page by wiping my loaded paint brush along the top edge to create a ‘pool’ of paint that would then drip down the page.

So, here’s how I did the next double page layout from start to finish!

I didn’t want the Art Journal to get too thick, so I decided I’d probably want to take out some pages as I went along to keep it manageable and able to close as I went along.  I took my knife and cut along the spine and took three pages out.

I went to the back of the book and found the three corresponding pages to the ones I cut out and removed them as well as they weren’t anchored to the book anymore anyway.

Here’s where I start to take my multi-medium matte gel (you could also use Mod Podge) and painted on a coat to the next three pages again.  I thought I’d want to have a thicker page to work with as there was going to be layers of paint applied as I created each page.  So, I put a coat on each page and then flipped the page over and glued it together.  When you do this, be sure to get all the air bubbles out as they could cause you trouble as you start to create on the page.  I actually use a brayer after I have all three pages glued together to be sure all the bubbles are out.

So here’s my first two pages in my mini Art Journal.  The page on the left is actually the back of my front cover, and the page on the right is the page I created by gluing the three pages together.  I heat set them to dry and I’m not patient enough to wait for them to dry….lol.  Now I’m ready to Gesso the pages to create my base….

I apply a complete coverage of the Gesso which acts like a ‘primer’ for my pages. and again, I heat set it to dry so I don’t have to wait so long……lol

So, these two pages are from the pages I cut out of the catalogue.  I loved the images and decided I wanted to try to incorporate them onto my pages….

I took my acrylic paints and started to just slap some colors on to create a background.  Once I had the coverage I liked I tore the images of the two ladies out and glued them to my pages using my matte gel.  Now I started to play!!

I continued to add paint, didn’t really like it, added different paint and…..

…liked it better…lol.  I removed the paint from the wine glasses using a baby wipe and outlined the glasses in black and colored in the ‘wine’ in red.

I took the “Share the Moments” sentiment from the same page the ladies came from and put it in the corner, added my quote and then took a black pastel and went around the edges of the pages and smeared it in with my finger.  I also put random ‘streaks’ of black on the pages and smeared them as well.

So, there you have how I created my new altered Pandora catalogue to use as a mini Art Journal.  I hope it brings you some inspiration to look around at what you may already have and see what else you can use it for…..have fun!!

As always, I so appreciate you stopping by and I love to hear from you.  Take card my blog family!!

Mixing it up!

Hey there my blogging buddies!!  I almost feel like I have a life again now that I have my swap cards done…..well, sort of.  I still don’t have my tree down.  The decorations are off of it……but the tree is still in my living room.  I know…..I know…..even Ukranian Christmas is over, so I know it time!!!  Tomorrow it’ll come down….maybe.   **Sigh**   I was busy tonight creating again.   That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!!  My friend Lisa is hosting a new challenge thread over on SCS called Mix It Up Chalenge! What’s so great about this challenge is you can make whatever you want……anything paper craft related…….there are NO RULES for this challenge!!!  I know!!!  Crazy isn’t it?!   You should go and check it out if you’re interested to see what our little crew is up to.  We have way too much fun in there and are seeing some pretty amazing creations this week.  Check out Lisa’s blog or my friend Lauren’s blog where these ladies are making some pretty incredible items this week.

So, not to be outdone, I decided to see if I could come up with something other than a card.   I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making an altered item and so I started out pretty small…  What I came up with is a post-it-note cover.  And I actually have to say it wasn’t that hard to figure out and it only took me about 2 hours to put together… lol lol.  I may have taken it partially apart a couple of times to change up a few things……and find the right ribbon to use cause I really don’t think I have enough ribbon to choose from, right Lisa??  **rolleyes**  So, this is what it looks like!

Isn’t this cool?!  I really like how it turned out.  I really like the contrast of the black on the pink and I actually used one of the vintage embellishments my friend Lynn sent me a while back.  I keep drooling over these embellishments and just couldn’t bring myself to use them cause they’re so gorgeous…..but I broke down today because it was just screaming to be put in the middle of that darn bow!

As you can see I still haven’t gotten around to making a photo white box, but I did watch an awesome tutorial for one on You Tube tonight and I’m going out to get what I need tomorrow.   I did make myself a peg bow maker tonight though!!  Yup, I played with the power tools this evening……..**insert Tim Allen grunting sounds here**

I’m off to post this to the Mix It Up Challenge! thread and then I’m going to go find my pillow and blanky……good night!!

Huggss, Yvonne!!  :o)
