You Can Do It!!

Standard

Hello my little blog family…..two posts in one week??!!  Just in case you’re wondering, no, I did not make a New Year’s Resolution to keep up with regular posting (although I’d like to find a way to become more consistant….lol).  I have my mom here visiting and we’ve been on a card creating binge right now and I’m just having so much fun!!  I have a few cards done and will try to post each one of them over the next few days…..we’ll see how that works out…..lol.

You’ve seen me talk about the gals over on Splitcoaststampers every now and again.  Well, one of the ladies has started a new challenge thread called You Can Do It!! This challenge will be hosted by anyone joining the group that wants to host and has an idea for a technique, card sketch, color combo, embellishment idea……etc.  The person hosting for the week will give the group a challenge and we can either participate or not each week and make a card according to the challenge she put out there.  You can even go back to previous challenges and do them if you want instead of the challenge for that week.  We’re a pretty laid back group and have a ton of fun!!  The very first challenge was to make a card using a hand-made flower of any kind.  And this flower didn’t have to be hand-made by yourself, it could be one that someone else made for you too!!  I ended up doing two cards for this challenge.

Check out that beautiful crochet flower!!  My mom crochet it for me…..did three different flowers so I decided to stack them to make one gorgeous full flower!!  I attached them all together with a brad from the Stampin’ Up! set of Antique brads and just love it.  She also showed  me how to do the double embossing technique on one card front…..very cool.  I love my newest embossing folder from Stampin’ Up! called Fancy Fan Folder.  It’s the one on the top of the card.   I’d love to find a die cut with that pattern on it.   And how about that lace…..OMGosh!!  I got it through a Facebook Destash your Stash site where people go on and create an album with all the supplies they want to purge out of their craft space or in some instances, stores, and are given a date and a one hour time slot to sell their stuff!  I just love this lace and got it for a song!  My Congratulations sentiment stamp is from one of my favorite sets from Hot Off the Press called Tiny Words & Images onto one of my tags from my Spellbinders Fancy Tags set.

IMG_0804

I’m going to get her to teach me how to make these before she goes home so I can pump some of these babies out too.  🙂  I don’t know that I’d ever try to duplicate the lace though.

The second card I made I used one of my favorite Cricut cartridges from Close To My Heart called Art Philosophy.  It has about 6 different rolled flower die cuts to choose from and I love making these flowers!!  I also used my new Memory Box Elegant Scrollwork die cut I got from my mom for Christmas.  I’ve been wanting that die cut for a while now and just love using it!  I use 4 of them on this card.  I took two of them and flipped one over and then attached the ‘bottom’ of them together to make the sort of fan shape with them.  I did the same thing again and just turned it upside down too to mirror the top one.  Clever now, aren’t I??!!!  🙂

IMG_0798

All I can say is thank goodness for glue pens cause that’s a very narrow die cut!!!  The leaves were punched out using my pocket leaf punch from Creative Memories.  The sentiment is a Hampton Arts stamp from the $1.50 bin at Michael’s.  I love those rolled flowers and this is the first time I used patterned paper to cut them out and I really like them!  Here’s a close-up of the beauties….

That’s it for today.  I’m off to go play some more with mom.  Later ladies!!

Graphic 45 A Ladies Diary padfolio

Standard

Hello to my little blogging family.  I have a very cool post for you today!  I made a very cute little padfolio using my September kit from Scrapn’ With Flair.  I contains papers from Graphic 45 A Ladies Diary and is gorgeous!!!  This padfolio was made following a YouTube video made by a wonderful lady by the name of Shannon Green.  You have to go and check out her video’s…..she makes the most amazing journals and has some of the best tips and tricks!!  Here’s a link to part one of the video for this padfolio:  Shannon Green.  You can find part two in her video listing.  Check it out!!

The pen slides through a little slot and this is what keeps the book closed!  Check out the I Am Roses roses that came with the kit along with the skeleton leaf (except for the gardenia which was included in the July kit).  And that wide eyelet lace along the bottom…..OMGoodness!!!  It is simply beautiful and also comes in the kit.  You’ll have to check out the YouTube video to see how I altered the pen to match the padfolio…..very cool.

Check out the two pockets on this page…..the one at the bottom and the triangle at the top is also a pocket!!  The sticker is from the kit along with the little I Am Roses cherry blossoms.  The sting of half-back pearls and the lace on the bottom pocket are from my own stash.  I included a piece of cardstock (8.5 x 11 folder in half) as one of the inside pages!

On this page I added the file tab from the sticker sheet included in the kit.  There is another pocket on the bottom of this page that’s been trimmed with lace from my stash along with the last of my half-back pearls from my July kit!

This page has a diagonal pocket on it.  You can also see another file tab attached to this page.  The lace is again from my stash and I included one more of my I Am Roses cherry blossoms to this page.   You can also see another piece of my cardstock from my stash as a page insert in the second section of the padfolio.

Here’s the last page of the folio.  It includes a pocket that has room to fit a note pad in it!  I also attached one of the chipboard diecuts included in the kit that has a piece of lace tied to it from my own stash.  There is also another strip of lace from my own stash along the top of this pocket.

So, there you have it!  My completed padfolio.

Here’s my YouTube video of the whole project here:

I’m off to continue with the cleaning/organizing/purging of my craftroom where I’m trying to figure out why on earth I’ve kept and accumulated soooo much stuff!!!  As always, I love to hear what you think……till next time!!

August DARE……a page about me……yikes!!!!!

Standard

Alrighty then……so Tracy Weinzapfel over on the Facebook page titled ‘Monday Nights LIVE with Tracy Weinzapfel Studios’, hosts a weekly Ustream mixed media free class I guess you could call it and does the most amazing pieces.  At the beginning of August she decided her monthly DARE challenge would be for us to create a mixed media page about ourselves and where we are right now.  As I listen the collective groan as you’re reading this…..that’s exactly what we all thought when she decided that was to be our ‘challenge’ for this month.  A page about ourselves??!!  No one thought they’d have a picture nice enough to use…..or didn’t like getting their picture taken….or like me, had just never done a page about themselves…..ever!!!  I find it very weird to create a page with just me on it……it somehow seems like I’m being conceited or something.  As the month went along, more and more of us started to dive in and try it and accept her DARE challenge.  One of the reasons I wanted to join both Tracy’s and Limor Weber’s facebook pages was to be able to just create a page and not try for perfection……not worry about whether ‘everyone’ was going to like it…..to be able to just sit in my little therapy room and create without a care about what anyone else though.  Well, I have to say, I’m finding the mixed media art genre to be very soothing and therapeutic like in some ways…..I’ve yet to master the ‘not caring about what others think’ part yet.  Baby steps…..lol

So, first I had to find a picture.  This was a challenge within itself as I’m always the one behind the camera as no one in my family ever thinks to take pictures!!!  As I weeded through the, ‘I look too fat in that picture’, ‘I have a stupid smile in that picture’, ‘My hair isn’t perfect in that picture’, ‘My eyes look like they’re half closed in that picture’……I am most certainly my own worst critic…..one more thing to add to the list of things I should work on…..lol.  I finally came across a picture of me holding my ver first Grandchild for the first time and yup……that was a genuine smile that I liked.  The proud Grandma smile…..lol.  I then decided to try something totally different again and use a color palette that I dont’ normally turn to……yellow, green and orange.  Yup, that’s what I chose…..yikes!!!  As I started to layer the paints to the canvas sheet, it started to grow on me.  That’s when I decided I wanted to do some zentangling on the page to complete it.  Sooooo much fun to do!!  Here are some close-ups of the patterns.  And I really should have written down the names of the patterns as I went along…..but I didn’t, so…..oh well!!

Here is a swirly design.  This one I just made up as I went along…..not sure if there’s an actual zentangle pattern that looks like this…..lol.

I really like the start  contrast between the bright orange and the turquoise in the corner of this pattern…..whatever it’s called.  I’m sure if there are any Zentangle friends reading this they’re probably cringing at the thought I don’t know what the patterns are called.  Ooppsss…..

This pattern is called Sez……the pretty little swirly thingy’s…..lol.

Not sure about this pattern either…..lol.  Kinda looks like a fish net….maybe…..

Now, I believe this pattern is called Strickles…..it’s pretty cool.

I like this pattern…..it’s called Bales.

This sort of weave pattern is called Keeks……also very cool.  So, here is what the whole canvas page looks like…..drum roll please…..hahahaha.

So…..there you have it.  My page about me and some zentangling.  I think it turned out pretty cool…..bright colors and all!!

As always, thanks so much for popping your head in to take a peek……I truly do appreciate it very much!!  I love to hear your feedback as well.

Now, I’m off to see if I can free-hand draw a bird……LOL LOL LOL…..this should be interesting.

Playing with some Plumeria!!!

Standard

Having a blast with the July kit!!!

Hey there blog land friends!!  I’ve been having so much fun with the July Basic Grey kit with the Plumeria line from Scrapn’ With Flair on-line store.   LOVE the colors!!  I’ve been playing and made a few cards I want to show you.

So, one thing you should know about me…..I have a really hard time with Clean & Simple cards.  I like the simplicity of this card…..and each time I look at it I want to just grab it and start adding stuff!!  I’m really loving the lace in this kit……but then again, I am a bit of a lace junkie.  :o   That butterfly is so stinkin’ cute and is one of the stickers in the kit.  I stuck it down onto a piece of cardstock so I could pop dot it up and bend the wings up a little to give it some dimension.  I soooo want to run some Distress Ink over the edges of this card!!!  Hmmmmm…..

This card was made using some scraps of the paper I used for my altered box from the same July kit.  I added a half a doily from my stash to the one edge and inked it in the Bundled Sage and Milled Lavendar Distress inks.  And take a look-see at that flower spray!!  Leanne has an amazing assortment of I Am Roses roses in the store and these things are my new favorite embellishment to use!  The scallopped frame and pearls were also from my own stash.  I love that little  sentiment stamp I picked up in the $1.00 bin at Michaels some time ago…..I use that one quite a bit.  I think my flower spray needs a nice seam binding double bow tied onto it with perhaps a button…….lol.  You know ladies, am I the only one that looks at her creations after we’re done them,  upload them on our computers and want to add or fix things???  lol.  I drive myself nuts doing that all the time…..geesh!!!

This is my favorite card so far.  I inked the front of the card with some Vintage Photo and Broken China Distress Ink and then stamped my new background stamp onto the front of it.  I love anything with birds and this stamp was on sale at Michael’s and is by Hero Arts – Musical Collage.  I stamped it out a second time and cut the bird out, inked it and pop-dotted it up off the page.  The teal and brown border is a strip of paper from the kit’s scraps that had, what looked like a real cool border, on it.  I attached a narrow piece of lace from my stash under it and really like the look.  I took my distressing tool to the edge of the border scrap and then inked the edges in Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  And there are more of those awesome little I Am Roses roses I had in my stash that I had to use.  The brighter orange one came that color and the other two I spritzed with some of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays to get a slightly different color than what they were.  Have I told you just how much I love my Lindy’s products??  lol.  I used Bluebeard Blue Violet Moon Shadow Mist on the bigger one ( it was a sort of Taupe brown color before I spritzed it and the other smaller orange one was also orange…..until it met up with the same mister.  The sentiment is stamped on a die cut from Spellbinders Shapeabilities Fancy Tags set and inked with some Vintage Photo and pop-dotted on.  The chocolate brown half back pearls were also from my stash.

So, there you have my cards I put together.  I hope they give you some inspiration to grab some paper and get to creating something yourself!!  I’d love to see what you all make with the kit……we learn soooo much from each other when we share what we create.  If you haven’t purchased the July kit yet, there are still a few left so get on over to the store and buy it…..you truly won’t be dissappointed once you get your hands on it and can touch all the goodies and start playing!!!

Chao till next time!!  I have a couple of other projects in my head I want to work on next week……this weekend is to the lake to relax at the cabin!!

Smashed……

Standard

Hey there my blog friends!!  I have to tell you……I’m really excited about my new Smash Book I made!!  What’s a Smash Book you ask??  It’s only the most fun thing thrown together for you to use to record anything and everything you want!!  A place to stick (smash) that concert ticket you’ve always held onto, or a place to smash that really funky coaster you kept from that awesome bar you found down in Mexico, or for the Oh so FUNNY things your grandkids say that make you laugh and you don’t want to forget!!  No rules…..no worries about it being a great entry, or beautiful…..for the things too good to forget…….for the conversations that made you smile…..just because you like it – smash it!!  As the makers of the actual official “Smash Book”  K&Company say,’It’s all yours – THE CATCHALL for the STUFF that makes YOU smile’.  I had my best friend down this last weekend and we stayed up to all hours of the morning (literally) and had soooo much fun making these books!  We each made two of them and they’re really easy and quite quick to throw together.  You can go to an on-line store and actually order the ‘real’ smash book from K&Company, or you can grab some paper…..any size you want to make it from a small pocket-sized one that could be 3″ x 5″, to the 6″ x 6″ ones we made, to 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″…..whatever YOU want it to be!!!

Okay…..so here’s what mine came out looking like.  Because I love everything vintage, I had to put lace (thanks to Rhonda…..isn’t that lace G O R G E O U S ! ! ! ) around my cover.

And because I’m frugal, I found the embellishment for my front cover in the hair accessory isle at the local Dollar Store and just ripped those suckers off the bobby pins, clips and headbands they were attached to!!  The book was put together with O-rings and because I didn’t like the look of just the O-rings I tied little pieces of ribbon, lace and seam binding to them to ‘hide’ them just a bit.

Inside the front cover (which by the way was made using the two sheets of Designer Paper which were glued to a 6 x 6 piece of cardboard which came from my empty Minute Rice box…..lol) I attached an envelope and inside the envelope I filled it with journaling tags and other odd’s and end’s sentiments I thought I may want for the book.  Throughout the book there are little ‘pockets’ made where I stashed some journaling tags and they can then also be used to tuck a picture into, or a souveniere…..whatever you want!

Here’s just a sample of some of the pages in the book….

So, there it is……my Smash Book.  I’m thinking I may add more just plain blank pages for journaling…..we’ll see how it goes as I begin to use it.  I’m not sure if the journaling tags will be enough room to write…..but the best part is….I can add to it whenever I want!!  I’ve made two of them already.  The other one I made for a friend who’s just got back from a one month holiday over in Hawaii, so I made her a Hawaiian inspired book to use to record all the great things about their trip.  I’ve started my third one too as one of the girls at work wants one for her daughter.

That’s it!!  I’m off to go find another project to post to my blog…..I’m soooo far behind!  Thanks for checking out how I’m planning on getting smashed…..LOL LOL.

Alcohol…..inks!!

Standard

I love trying new techniques and this one grabbed my attention as soon as I saw it.  I have this nice little collection of  Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks.  I lucked out with this bundle from a girl who was getting out of scrapbooking (I know!!  Who get OUT of scrapbooking??!!) and was selling all her stuff.  She had this bundle of  10 bottles of the alcohol inks, three different mixatives, the blending solution, a full package of the felt applicators and an applicator tool……for $20!!!  Cha Ching!!  Sold!!  Anyway, where was I……(sooo easily distracted …… squirrel…..lol).  Okay, so here’s what I decided to do with these inks the other day.  I was surfing You Tube videos and came across this awesome number…..check out the results…..

This is sooo easy peasy to do.  Take a piece of glossy cardstock, your alcohol inks in a range of colors of your choice and start applying one drop of a single color at a time onto the glossy cardstock and let it spread out a bit.  Take another color and put a drop close to your first drop and let the colors bleed together!  As each color bleeds into the next a new color is created.  Continue to do this until your piece of cardstock is covered  as much as you need it to be for your card.  The alcohol ink dries very quickly and in no time at all you can trim the cardstock down to your desired dimensions.  I trimmed this one down to a little over 1 3/4″ and attached it to my piece of black cardstock.

Check out the finished card…..

I really like how colorful and bright this is.  I decided to just stamp a simple flower design onto the card from my Close To My Heart ‘Treasure Life’ set and emboss it in white.  I added the ‘because I CARE’ sentiment from my Stampin’ Up! set by the same name and embossed it in white as well.  Pretty darn cool and very easy!  And no bling on this card??!!

That’s it for tonight.  My pillow is screaming at me to get to sleep……so, again.  Thanks so much for stopping in to take a peak….I appreciate it and I love to read your comments!  Till tomorrow…..

Hawaii…..can I go back??!!

Standard

Hello blog friends…..I figured I’d best post a few pictures of our recent trip to Hawaii.  We were on the Big Island – our first time to Hawaii!!  It was very beautiful there and I loved the sun and the beaches!!  Being able to watch the hump back whales out in the ocean and experience the sea turtles on the beach sunbathing beside the rest of us……although they have very strict rules about how close you can go up to them, so zoom on the camera sure helped!  The flowers…..oh my!!…..gorgeous.

Our first morning.....our friends had brought us fresh flower leis when they picked us up from the airport the evening before.

Sea turtle - we met this fellow the first day and he spent most of the day sunbathing with us.

This was what our beaches looked like most days - beautiful blue water, lava rock and palm trees

South Beach - this is where the brave clliff dive into the crystal blue ocean.

What a sunset!!

These little guys liked to hide amongst the lava rock along the ocean - a zoom lens and sitting still would get you a pic of them.

This is what $25 would buy you at the local market flower store.....WOW!!!

We had some pretty big surfs some days.....wow!

The sunset this evening was just stunning......my camera was working overtime!

Yup.....it was an ever changing sunset too.....gorgeous!!

At the end of the sunset.....some beautiful pinks in that sky

And not to be outdone, this was the sunrise from our plane on our way home....you can see the mountains up above the clouds.

So, there’s a few of my pics.  It was a wonderful 10 days….way tooo short!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Love Birds……ahhhh

Standard

Round three coming up!  This is such a cute card…..I just love all the little details on this one.

Aren’t those two little birds just too cute!!!  They lend themselves to be very fitting for so many different occasions!!  Valentines, a wedding card, anniversary, birthday, just because, thinking of you…..etc., etc.!  So versatile they are.  And I love the embossed frame…..it’s one of the folders in the Designer Frames set of Textured Impressions Embossing Folders Set..  This oval folder fits the Extra-Large Oval punch (which the birds were stamped onto).  I really like the circle details around this embossed frame…..sets it off so nicely.

I love the little hearts!  Now I forgot to ask ‘Cutter’ (my SU! Demo’s nickname….she’s awesome!!) which folder this is, so I went searching through the catalogues and I’m pretty sure it’s one of the Letterpress Plates called Heart Pressed….so I’m going with that.  She’ll correct me if I’m wrong….lol.  (and only because I just emailed her to ask her.  😉  )  Edit:  lol……nope, I was wrong…..it’s one of the folders from the Adorning Accents sets.

See…..cute card isn’t it?!!  Don’t you think my little photo helper is just the best?  It’s a bear hubby gave me quite a few years ago that was attached to a balloon boquet for Valentines Day……there was a story behind me getting the balloons, because anyone who knows my hubbywill know he doesn’t do things like send balloon bouquets….lol.  Attached to the cute little bear was a little card and on that card was a poem he’d written for me.  Now, you’re probably going…..ahhhh…..he wrote you a poem??!!  How romantic……ya.  This is what the poem said:  “Roses are red, violets are blue(which, I agree, was a good start to the poem).  It went on to say….. I need brownie points, for a new Ski-Doo…..yup, that’s right.  LOL LOL LOL.  He’d had a minor argument with a tree root on a ski-doo trail and his sled kinda lost and bent his ski…hadn’t told me yet, so he thought this would be a good way to break the news to me…ya gotta love the man.  He is inventive….and it totally worked!!  Yup, that’s right, I can be bought with a sweet little bear holding a sign which says “I love you this much” and a balloon bouquet….lol

That’s it for tonight…..I’m off to make an important phone call to a special friend……thanks for stopping by and checking out my cards!  I soooo appreciate it!!

All dressed up!!

Standard

Okay my little blog friends…..this is going to be my last card I’ll make for this weeks Mix It Up challenge over on Splitcoaststampers.  I obviously had allot of fun with this challenge this week…..lol.  I really like how this one turned out.  Check out that bling!!

The blinged out ‘brouch’ is actually from a bobby pin I found in the hair accessory section at our local Dollar Store.  I just broke it off the bobby pin…..I really like it!  The blinged out buckle I made using some clear bling and a buckle shape cut out of cardstock on my cricut using my CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge.  I think I’m getting some actual blinged out buckles soon….. 😉

Here’s a view of the whole card……pretty shwanky!!  I love the look of the pink houdstooth paper.  I haven’t put a sentiment on this card yet……I couldn’t decide what I might use it for yet.

Well, I’m going ot post this to the SCS Mix It Up thread and then head to bed!!

Huggss,

Yvonne  😉

My creative space

Standard

Another day come and gone and another day closer to the weekend!!!  I didn’t do much today…..didn’t get anything created and that’s okay.  I did have one of my friends on SCS request to see picks of my crafting space that I call my therapy room, so I thought I’d share with you my wonderful creative space!

These two tables are along one wall in my crafting space.  The one on the left is where I have my cricut sitting now and the shelves above hold things like my stamp sets, embossing folders and my Cuttlebug.  The picture on the right is where I sit when I’m creating!! I have more of my stamp sets on the shelves above this table along with my stamp pads, Xyron machine, cutters, glue runners, etc.

The pic on the left is at the end of the room and this has the table I sit at with my computer on it.  The shelving unit to the left of that table holds my jars of flowers (sorted by color), my alpha letters (stored in little plastic drawers sorted by letter or in binders), my brads (sorted by color) and other misc embellishments.  The picture on the right has my black filing cabinet with a credenza on top of it (use to be in my office at work and I keep allot of misc junk in there…..lol.  The brown storage cupboard has my scrapbooking albums, paper packs for my scrapbooking (sorted into plastic storage cases by theme), my 8 1/2 x 11″ cardstock, and the shelving unit has misc paper packs, my stacking paper holders with paper sorted by color, my glitter, some misc punches and extra ribbon.  The blue and grey plastic box looking thing on the floor is a portable 12 x 12 paper holder with rolling wheels and a handle that comes up and is full of paper packs, and my solid 12 x 12 colored paper (of course, sorted by color)…lol.  On top of the black filing cabinet and the brown storage cupboard are my magazine holders with all my copies of my card/scrapbooking magazines sorted by magazine first and then in date order…..omgoodness…..notice a little OCD theme here anyone?!!  Wow.

Over the door I have a shoe holder hanging on it and this is where I store most of my punches.  Since this picture was taken I’ve acquired a few Martha Stewart Punches and some EK Success and I have these stored in a plastic container on my shelves above my cricut machine.  Now, when I say I like to recycle and make things myself instead of spending money on them…..the stamp storage unit I have above my table is actually an old cassette tape holder!  I cut out pieces of cardboard to put on each space where a cassette would have gone and I store my stamp pads (upside down) in this case……of course…..sorted by color.  😉

So, when I say I don’t like to spend money on the brand name storage things, I just couldn’t bring myself to pay $100 for a clip-it-up to store my embellishments.  I made this one myself out of a floor lamp base, a threaded rod, a couple of lamp shade skelatons, some nuts, bolts and washers and a little black spray paint, all for……..$20!!  I have my embellishments hanging from paper clips because, you guessed it, I was too cheap to go out and buy the little clips to hang all this stuff on.  Once again, the embellishments are sorted by theme.  I yi yi……I need help……lol!!

Last but not least, my little fettish with ribbon.  I have an over the door towel hanger on my storage room door in my craft room.  I have all  my ribbon (well, most of it) taken off the spools and threaded through ribbon holders I purchased through Paper Wishes on-line.  I have these put onto D rings and hanging from the towel bar.  Of course….the ribbon is sorted by color, with my lace separate and my fibers.  The little baggies you see at the end of the rod is some wide lace I got that is too wide to fit onto my ribbon holders.

So, there you have it.  My little piece of heaven in the basement of my house.  You now see why I say therapy would have been cheaper…..but I gotta tell you….it wouldn’t have been as much fun!!!  Thank you for stopping by and letting me share with you my own therapy room……as you can see there is lots of room, so anytime you’d like to show up on my doorstep with your crafting supplies, I’m pretty sure I’d have enough room for you.  Oh!  I should add…….my room looks NOTHING like this most of the time as my mother can attest to…..it’s usually looking like a crafting tornado went through it and most of the time I can’t even see the tops of my tables….lol.

Huggs,  Yvonne  🙂
