Day 3 of our #90-day blog challenge!! Last evening we had all the family over for supper. Our oldest son finished his last year of electrical school and thought it would be nice to have everyone over to celebrate. We also had two of our 5 grandchildren stay for a sleep over which is always fun. They even ‘helped’ us rake leaves for an hour or so. I love having my grand-babies close…..so very blessed. I do have to say, yard work is NOT something I enjoy and my body is so totally with me on this one at the moment. My 55 year old body is really NOT impressed with me right now and is doing everything it can to let me know it too…..which I so appreciate. (my oldest grandson likes to remind me quite often, “Grandma, you’re two 5’s, right?”) I’m feeling more like two 8’s right now I think….lol. Ibuprofen in most certainly my friend this evening…..and my ice pack.
I recently connected with a friend from town again a couple of months ago. We’d met through a mutual friend and when that friend moved away we kinda drifted apart. She found me through one of my Facebook groups called Journaling by 5’s when she was watching one of my video’s of the process. She messaged me on FB and I can’t even tell you how happy I was to hear from her again…..and then to find out she’s a fellow Mixed Media artist was the icing on the cake. We collaborate wonderfully together and have allot of fun when we get together. We’ve been meeting probably once a week ever since.
She had found either a blog post or a YouTube video that was talking about Journal Prompt cards. She immideately grabbed hold of the idea and just flew with it. She made up a complete 52 deck of cards with 52 different journaling prompts on them to use whenever she had a creative block…or just because to change things up. Well of course we had to give them a trial run! She dealt out 5 cards for me and over to her place with my supplies I headed. These are the 5 cards I received that evening:
Now, I’d seen Karen’s set of Inktense Blocks, however, I’d never used them before so I was kinda happy to get this card. WOW……Those blocks are so much fun and indeed intense! I started my page out with some metallic paint I had that was actually suppose to be used to create a mirror effect. Not so much on paper, which is what I wanted but with the metalic look. I adhered some torn strips and pieces of under paper to the page and then took the Inktense blocks and used them as is….with water……through stencils……..with a stamp. I took a butterfly mask I have and cut some circles from a sheet of light cardstock and then painted the background white, except where the circles and butterfly mask was. Did some black pen work around the masked shapes and then added some of inktense block to some of my Faber Castel Whipped Spackle (my favorite paste medium. ❤ ) and mixed it up. Is there anything these blocks can’t do?! Colored the spackle beautifully. A few black ink splatters and some drippage and I called this puppy done!
This was a very fun page to do and I believe it was not too long after that I went onto Amazon and purchased a set of my own. I added some black pen work around the masked images and of course outlined the entire page with my Pitt Artist Big Brush pen and blended it in.
As always, I very much appreciate you stopping by and always appreciate any comments. Have a blessed day.
Here are the links to the other friends who are doing this challenge as well.
Hope you have a most fantastic day!!
Hello my little blogging family! I have another YouTube video to share with you using my July kit from Scrapn’ With Flair. It’s full of fantastic paper and all sorts of goodies from Basic Grey’s Plumeria line. I love the color pallette of this kit and it’s been so much fun to play with! Getting this YouTube to download was a lesson in frustration once again…..lol. I can honestly say though, that I think I may just have it all figured out now……maybe…..
So, check out my video and let me know what you think!
Thanks for stopping by once again…..you know I love to hear from you……
Having a blast with the July kit!!!
Hey there blog land friends!! I’ve been having so much fun with the July Basic Grey kit with the Plumeria line from Scrapn’ With Flair on-line store. LOVE the colors!! I’ve been playing and made a few cards I want to show you.
So, one thing you should know about me…..I have a really hard time with Clean & Simple cards. I like the simplicity of this card…..and each time I look at it I want to just grab it and start adding stuff!! I’m really loving the lace in this kit……but then again, I am a bit of a lace junkie. That butterfly is so stinkin’ cute and is one of the stickers in the kit. I stuck it down onto a piece of cardstock so I could pop dot it up and bend the wings up a little to give it some dimension. I soooo want to run some Distress Ink over the edges of this card!!! Hmmmmm…..
This card was made using some scraps of the paper I used for my altered box from the same July kit. I added a half a doily from my stash to the one edge and inked it in the Bundled Sage and Milled Lavendar Distress inks. And take a look-see at that flower spray!! Leanne has an amazing assortment of I Am Roses roses in the store and these things are my new favorite embellishment to use! The scallopped frame and pearls were also from my own stash. I love that little sentiment stamp I picked up in the $1.00 bin at Michaels some time ago…..I use that one quite a bit. I think my flower spray needs a nice seam binding double bow tied onto it with perhaps a button…….lol. You know ladies, am I the only one that looks at her creations after we’re done them, upload them on our computers and want to add or fix things??? lol. I drive myself nuts doing that all the time…..geesh!!!
This is my favorite card so far. I inked the front of the card with some Vintage Photo and Broken China Distress Ink and then stamped my new background stamp onto the front of it. I love anything with birds and this stamp was on sale at Michael’s and is by Hero Arts – Musical Collage. I stamped it out a second time and cut the bird out, inked it and pop-dotted it up off the page. The teal and brown border is a strip of paper from the kit’s scraps that had, what looked like a real cool border, on it. I attached a narrow piece of lace from my stash under it and really like the look. I took my distressing tool to the edge of the border scrap and then inked the edges in Walnut Stain Distress Ink. And there are more of those awesome little I Am Roses roses I had in my stash that I had to use. The brighter orange one came that color and the other two I spritzed with some of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays to get a slightly different color than what they were. Have I told you just how much I love my Lindy’s products?? lol. I used Bluebeard Blue Violet Moon Shadow Mist on the bigger one ( it was a sort of Taupe brown color before I spritzed it and the other smaller orange one was also orange…..until it met up with the same mister. The sentiment is stamped on a die cut from Spellbinders Shapeabilities Fancy Tags set and inked with some Vintage Photo and pop-dotted on. The chocolate brown half back pearls were also from my stash.
So, there you have my cards I put together. I hope they give you some inspiration to grab some paper and get to creating something yourself!! I’d love to see what you all make with the kit……we learn soooo much from each other when we share what we create. If you haven’t purchased the July kit yet, there are still a few left so get on over to the store and buy it…..you truly won’t be dissappointed once you get your hands on it and can touch all the goodies and start playing!!!
Chao till next time!! I have a couple of other projects in my head I want to work on next week……this weekend is to the lake to relax at the cabin!!
