You Can Do It!!

Standard

Hello my little blog family…..two posts in one week??!!  Just in case you’re wondering, no, I did not make a New Year’s Resolution to keep up with regular posting (although I’d like to find a way to become more consistant….lol).  I have my mom here visiting and we’ve been on a card creating binge right now and I’m just having so much fun!!  I have a few cards done and will try to post each one of them over the next few days…..we’ll see how that works out…..lol.

You’ve seen me talk about the gals over on Splitcoaststampers every now and again.  Well, one of the ladies has started a new challenge thread called You Can Do It!! This challenge will be hosted by anyone joining the group that wants to host and has an idea for a technique, card sketch, color combo, embellishment idea……etc.  The person hosting for the week will give the group a challenge and we can either participate or not each week and make a card according to the challenge she put out there.  You can even go back to previous challenges and do them if you want instead of the challenge for that week.  We’re a pretty laid back group and have a ton of fun!!  The very first challenge was to make a card using a hand-made flower of any kind.  And this flower didn’t have to be hand-made by yourself, it could be one that someone else made for you too!!  I ended up doing two cards for this challenge.

Check out that beautiful crochet flower!!  My mom crochet it for me…..did three different flowers so I decided to stack them to make one gorgeous full flower!!  I attached them all together with a brad from the Stampin’ Up! set of Antique brads and just love it.  She also showed  me how to do the double embossing technique on one card front…..very cool.  I love my newest embossing folder from Stampin’ Up! called Fancy Fan Folder.  It’s the one on the top of the card.   I’d love to find a die cut with that pattern on it.   And how about that lace…..OMGosh!!  I got it through a Facebook Destash your Stash site where people go on and create an album with all the supplies they want to purge out of their craft space or in some instances, stores, and are given a date and a one hour time slot to sell their stuff!  I just love this lace and got it for a song!  My Congratulations sentiment stamp is from one of my favorite sets from Hot Off the Press called Tiny Words & Images onto one of my tags from my Spellbinders Fancy Tags set.

I’m going to get her to teach me how to make these before she goes home so I can pump some of these babies out too.  🙂  I don’t know that I’d ever try to duplicate the lace though.

The second card I made I used one of my favorite Cricut cartridges from Close To My Heart called Art Philosophy.  It has about 6 different rolled flower die cuts to choose from and I love making these flowers!!  I also used my new Memory Box Elegant Scrollwork die cut I got from my mom for Christmas.  I’ve been wanting that die cut for a while now and just love using it!  I use 4 of them on this card.  I took two of them and flipped one over and then attached the ‘bottom’ of them together to make the sort of fan shape with them.  I did the same thing again and just turned it upside down too to mirror the top one.  Clever now, aren’t I??!!!  🙂

All I can say is thank goodness for glue pens cause that’s a very narrow die cut!!!  The leaves were punched out using my pocket leaf punch from Creative Memories.  The sentiment is a Hampton Arts stamp from the $1.50 bin at Michael’s.  I love those rolled flowers and this is the first time I used patterned paper to cut them out and I really like them!  Here’s a close-up of the beauties….

That’s it for today.  I’m off to go play some more with mom.  Later ladies!!

Yvonne  🙂

Friendship……

Standard

Hello blog friends…..I’ve just been on a creative marathon it seems!!  My good friend Kathy over on SCS hosted our challenge for last week on our ‘Mix It Up’ thread.  We were to go to the resource section on SCS and choose something from there to do.  I hadn’t been to the resource section in a while so I was excited to see what new things I could learn.  It didn’t take me long to find just the project to work on as I wanted something to make for a very dear friend and was looking for some inspiration…..I just need to ask myself though…..why do I pick these projects to do when I have a timeline and dealine to follow and I start it the night before it’s due…you would think I’d learn……you would think.  Ya.  This is a project that’s a little bigger than a card……so I have the funny feeling this will be a long blog post……better go grab a coffee or something…..lol.

It’s an acordian ‘folder’ made from a file folder.  You can find the instructions here, Accordian File Folder.  I’ve had those swirly rhinestones with the combination of bling, pearls and raised roses for some time now and have just never found anything to put them on……this fit the bill perfectly!  They’re made by Prima and are from their “Say It In Crystals’ line.  All of the designer paper I used on this project was from Creative Imiginations and I love this paper.  It’s in the rich earth tones which I love and every piece I bought had a butterfly or butterflies on it. I bought a few of each sheet when I found it cause I knew it would be one I’d gravitate to a few times.  There is only one sheet of designer paper made by Prima from their “Moulin Rouge Collection – Celest”

Isn’t that metal butterfly gorgeous?!  It’s from a set made by Blue Moon Beads and I love this set.  It comes with 4 of these beauties, all a little different and in 4 sizes.  I used a few of them in this project.  the parchment paper sentiment is from a set made by Creative Memories.  It’s their Nancy O’Dell Collection and called ‘expressions of life’ and it is sooo versatile.  You’ll see a few of the sentiments on this little folder.  I tore around the word Friendship and then inked around the edges with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.

Here’s the whole folder opened up.  It has 4 ‘pockets’ with little tags in each one and all decorated up!!  The whole folder was inked around all the edges and folds with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.  I love the definition that’s created when you ink around the edges of a piece of paper.  This was allot of fun to put together……it just took a long time!!

Here’s the first pocket with the tag sticking up out of it.  The ‘tag’ I have attached to the top of this tag is a two piece set that I’ve had for so many years I don’t know where it came from anymore.  It’s a cardstock tag with an acetate sheet overlay that has light grey print on it to create the black distressed edge, the butterfly overtop of the fern leaf and the post office paris stamp on it.  The brad I used to hold it on is from Close To My Heart and from the Filigree Charms set…. (love that set of charms and brads).  The ‘jewelled’ piece up on the right hand side at the top of the main tag is from a bobby pin hair accessory I found at the local Dollar Store and just detached it from the bobby pin.  I love those hair accessories!!  The pic on the right is of the pocket itself.  that gorgeous vintage looking metal flower is from my good friend Lynn (FMcrafater) on SCS.  I finally brought myself to start using these little treasures she sent me instead of hording them and just drolling over them from time to time…..lol.

The second folder and tag.  This tag has a sentiment from the Creative Memories Nancy O’Dell collection again.  Torn and inked around the edges with my Vintage Photo distress ink.  All the tags have various strands of fibres linked through the hole in the top of the tag.  I love the look of the barb-wire scroll on the desginer paper on this tag…..

Here’a close up on the left of a beautiful little trinket my friend Lisa (Ashdale) sent me a while ago.  I love this thing and just thought it was a perfect addition to this tag.  On the right is the pocket for this section of the folder.   That little jewelled beauty on the top is another hair accessory that I just took the pliers to and detached from the clip.  The sentiment is from my Creative Memories set again and the cameo is from a set made by Making Memories and their Vintage Groove II series.   Sentiment inked with the Vintage Photo too.

Section #3!  The tag has another parchment sentiment from my Creative Memories set and I’ve attached another one of my metal butterflies.  I also added a pearl scroll from Want2Scrap and their ‘Say it with Pearls’ line.  I also added three pearl drops on the right hand top corner from Making Memories.

There’s a close up on the left of the sentiment, pearl swirl and that wonderful little metal butterfly.  On the right is the pocket for this section of the folder.  Three more pearl drop hearts for the top right corner and another embellishment I’ve had for some time and I’m pretty sure it was a Prima set.   There’s more of that designer paper with the barb-wire swirls and butterlfy on it.

Here’s the last section of the folder and my favorite sentiment!!  Another one of my metal buterflies and some swirly bling on the bottom of the sentiment, which was inked with my vintage photo, peeled paint and broken china.  I love how these inks blend together so well and make for a subtle hue on the parchment paper.

Man I love those butterflies!!!  The pocket for this last section has a tag that I pop dotted up and again, from a sheet I’ve had forever and don’t know where it’s from.  The beautiful butterfly on this pocket is from a sheet of them I picked up from Walmart and I don’t have the outer packaging!!!  Oh well……

So, there you have it.  Hubby apparantely thinks I need to feed him now, so I’m off to throw some chow into the oven.  Thanks so much for popping in……I love to have you!!

Mixing It Up with Clean and Simple??

Standard

Hello blog world friend.  Today is the start of another week of our Mix It Up! challenge.  The lovely and talented Donna is hosting this week and did she choose another doozy for us!  This one may prove to be a bit of a challenge for me.  Her rules this week is no layers allowed on the card and no embellishments and only two colors of ink!!!  Seriously??!!  I grabbed a couple of my stamps, a couple of stamp pads and came up with this!

I stamped my hearts and sentiment on a piece of paper and cut around the images.  I attached the two images to the front of my card with removeable glue dots and stamped my script text stamp all over the front of the card using my black Close To My Heart ink and the stamp is from my Hot Off The Press Delicate Patterns set.  I removed the two images, and stamped them again right onto the spaces on my card…..easy peasy. The images are from a Stampology set I have called Love Thing and they’re stamped with my Cranberry Close To My Heart ink.   I decided it just needed something else so I took my Creative Memories distress tool and distressed the edges and then inked them.  I dont’ mind this at all and I only had to make two of them to get it to work!!!

This is going to be a fun week I think!  I may have to see if  I can pump another one out yet tonight……

Monochromatic…..it was harder than I thought!!

Standard

Hello to my blog friends!  I hope you had a great weekend!  I didn’t get as much time in as I thought to play in my therapy room, but that is okay.  I was able to make a card to play along in the Mix It Up! challenge thread.  Ashdale (a.k.a. Lisa) started the thread where we have a different host each week and there are pretty much no rules……kinda. 😉  You really should pop on over…..we have allot of fun there.  So, this week we have the wonderful Muscrat (a.k.a. Kathy) hosting and she brought us a doozy!  Our challenge was to create a monochromatic card, right down to any and all embellishments used, ink, paper, etc.  I love the look of the monochromatic cards and I really thought this one was going to be easy…..pfft…..ya right!!  Me and my bright ideas decided I’d do a white card….pretty simple…..I have lots of white paper, white ribbon, white pearls…….but white ink for a sentiment on white paper…..ya, never thought that one out so well….lol.

I made a 5×5 card and used paper from my Recollections cardstock paper and the Precious Metals pack.  I love the shimmer of this paper and thought it would work great for a monochromatic card.  I ran a stip of it through my Cuttlebug and used my Swiss Dots folder.  I also cut out a doily using my Close To My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge…….have I told you how much I LOVE this cartridge??  😉  Okay, maybe a few times.  That beautiful lace flower is from a strip of lace my mom and I purchased when I got married 32 years ago.  Neither one of us can remember why we bought it anymore, we never used it, and I’m sure glad now we didn’t and that mom found it and cut some for me to use too!!  The front of the flower where you see the pearl drop is actually open and filled with a little bit of cotton.  That’s how we bought it…..it’s just beautiful in real life.

I did actually figure out what to do for my sentiment, I used the white embossing powder, from Stampin’ Up!, that our hostess with the mostest gave me in my Phyced Valentine package over in the Secret Valentine thread.  I was very lucky to have her as my Secret Valentine and she sent me the most beautiful package…..I think I drooled all over it for a day before I dared to take anything out of it to use.   So ya, there is my sentiment.  It actually shows up pretty good in real life and says “Love is spoken here.”  The sentiment is from my Close To My Heart Treasure Life stamp set.  I use that set allot as it has some very nice sentiments and flowers in it.  The ribbon is from our local Dollar Store again.  I’m very lucky they have a half decent scrapbooking section here or I’d be hooped for any supplies at all!!

Here’s a closer look at that awesome doily die cut from my CTMH Art Philosophy cartidge.  I cut it out at 3.5″ and added some little butterflies I punched out using my Creative Memories butterfly punch.  I added some pearl drops to the body of the butterflies.

So, here’s a view of the whole card.  I added a grouping of pearls on the corners of the cardstock that was embossed with the swiss dots.  These pearls are from Close To My Heart and come in a package of 36 in four sizes.  I really like them.  I also used a pearl swirl  in behind the lace flower and I’m not sure where that was from as I’d thrown the packaging out…..ooppsss!!   There you have it…..my version of the monochromatic card!  I hope you enjoyed it and thanks so much for stopping by!

Yvonne  😉

Pink bows and butterflies??!!

Standard

Hey there blog friends!!  Got side tracked there with grandkids again!  This is the second card I made last night just cause I could.  This one isn’t for any particular challenge.

Take a look at this fabulous ribbon!!!  I found it in Saskatoon at one of the DollarRamma stores!  I thought of my friend Lisa right away when I saw it and if there had been two rolls I would have bought one for her!  I just love it!  That cute little pink butterfly is punched using my Creative Memories butterfly punch and is just perfect when I need a tiny butterfly for something.  For this card I used the Marth Stewart Double Arches Punch Around the Page border punch.  This is another of my favorites.

I had to add a bling swirl to the card.  The sentiment is from my Close To My Heart Treasure Life set and it’s matted on top of the Deco Fan punch around the page border punch. I sort of cut and pasted it to make this frame for the sentiment.  I like this sentiment and use it quite often.

Here’s the whole card.  I’m quite happy with the results…..maybe I’ll have to deviate from my earth tones more often!

Thanks so much for stopping in to have a peak!  I love hearing what you think so feel free to leave a comment!  I’m off to visit the other grandchild now……..hope to get inky again this evening.  Later my friends!

Yvonne  😉
