Extraordinary……Strong……

Standard

Day #12.  This was the last evening with my niece and her little guy.  He’s such a sweetheart and I’m going to miss them both!!  He’s such an easy kid to have around.  I snuck some snuggles and  pictures in and even got a bit of a smile….blurry picture of course….but it’s a smile!!

I’ll get more snuggles with this little man in Sept…..although he’ll probably be walking by then and I’ll have to chase him down to get the snuggles.

The page I’m going to share today is one I did last year and was the first page I created in my little recipe booklet art journal.  It was my first kick at the can at trying to do a collage with magazine images.  I colored the background with acrylic paints and then started to pick out my images and finishing them off with some doodling.  This was a fun page to do and I quite liked it when it was all done.  Added some background stamps and some scribbles.  Did some shading with my Stabilo All pencil….

Even put a UPC symbol on the page….lol.  Some punched circles from one of my magazine pages.  There’s allot  going on with this page!!

It’s funny, when I look at this page I remember choosing the words and phrases to go on it and thinking they’d be my mantra.  To be “Extraordinary Everyday”.  That I was an “Inspiring Artist”.  I’d like to think I”m “Strong”.  I put a “piece of myself” in every creation I make.  And often, my page will “set the mood” for whatever I’m going through at that time.  Do I hit the mark everyday…..depends what my inner critic is telling me.  Sometimes I feel Extraordinary….sometimes not so much.  I think I’ll always be an Inspiring Artist….lol.  And I’m probably Stronger than I think.  Pretty fitting cover I think.

Okay, that’s it for today.  We’re headed off to the cabin this weekend with our oldest and his family so I’m thinking I should have lots to blog about this weekend.  Until tomorrow…..peace out!

Choosing to shine

Choosing to shine

I’m on day number 6 in my #90daysofblogging !!  I’m seriously going to run out of things to blog about!  There may be a few posts where I just ramble…..about nothing…..at all…..hmmmm.

I tried my hand at another magazine collage art journal page.  No prompt cards……just sitting and creating from the heart.  I kind of wanted the background to have a sort of rough textured wall look.  I used my Super Heavy Gesso by Liquitex and applied it with a palette knife to give it the look I was looking for.  I took three of my Liquitex Basics acrylic paints in Burnt Siena, Burnt Umber and Yellow Oxide and used a sponge and applied the paint to cover the background completely.  I adhered the girl onto the page with my Golden Gel Medium.  I wanted to doodle on her and began with just the whispy lines in her hair….one thing lead to another…..and she was covered in dots!!  I quite like it and was okay with the look.  I’m not sure now I should have added the brick stencil….it’s okay, but I’m wondering if I would like it better without the white brick.  I may at some time go back and maybe add some color to them…..or not….lol.  I loved the quote and just felt it really applied to this page, especially with the ray of sunlight beaming across her face.  “If you don’t SHINE you’re just dull.  Choose to SHINE.”  Fitting, don’t you think?!  I’m not one to go out into a room and shine.  I much prefer to ‘observe’.  It’s not that I don’t go and talk to people…..I’m kind of a chatty one when you get me going…..I just don’t like the lime light on me……at all!

Here’s some close ups of the page and the final result….

I love the look of collaged magazine images and there is one artist on YouTube who I love to watch.  I love what she does with her pages and love her style.  Check out her channel!  She goes by PackerDi.

So, day 6 of blogging is done…..what the heck am I going to do tomorrow?!!  lol

Thank you so much for sticking with me on this journey…..soooo appreciated.  Please feel free to let me know you were here.  😉

Also, take some time to check out my friends blogs who are also on this 90 day challenge with me.

Doodle Mania

Standard

I was surfing through Facebook last night and came upon a page that just caught my eye.  I love to doodle….don’t do it near enough and this lady has seriously got some amazing talent and I just fell in love with everything I saw on her page.  Her page is called Diane’s Mixed Media Art and you seriously need to check out what she does and the things she uses to doodle on…..very impressive!

One of the posts she’d made a few months ago was a picture where she just doodled on a magazine page.  I loved it and went in search of a magazine to doodle on.  I came across an old People’s magazine and a page that was pretty much completely black.  I could see in my mind a page full of white doodles and grabbed my pens.  there were two words at the top of the page in white block text that said CROWD PLEASERS.  When I got to those words I took my black pen and filled in the letters.  I love how they blend in with the rest of the page and you can hardly even tell they’re there anymore.  I love the big arrow too.  It is full of different colored strips of colored pixel dots so I just chose the red lines and covered them with the white pen and left the rest of the colors.  Very subtle.  And the outside edge of the page had some color on it as well so I just doodled over that with my black pen.

I had fun with this page.  I think this is something I can see myself doing more of!  🙂

Thanks for dropping by and have a most fantastic rest of your day.  🙂

For a dear friend.

Standard

One of the hardest things we have to deal with is the loss of a loved one.  I have a very good friend who just lost her Grandmother who was 98 years old.  I don’t care how old your loved one is…..it’s never easy to lose them and have to say goodbye.  From what Tracy has said about her Grandmother, she left behind an amazing legacy and a family who is blessed, full of love and laughter.  They’re celebrating their Mother’s/Grandmother’s life this week in what I’m sure has been a roller coaster week of emotions as they share stories and memories.

Tracy is one of my very talented friends who does a weekly Ustream class for Mixed Media called Mixed Media Mondays and she also has a Facebook group called Mixed Media Mondays with Tracy Weinsapfel Studios.  Recently Tracy has been sharing her love of doodling.  I was watching some YouTube videos this evening on Zen Doodles and did up a page.  I kept thinking of Tracy as I put pen to paper and decided to share my page with you.  It’s not an original page…..it was copied from a 4-part series on Zendoodling that I watched where she was teaching how to do up a sample Zendoodle page.  This is what I created….and loved every minute of it.

i can’t take credit for the designs……but I did have fun trying to recreate them!  I love to doodle….most of the time it’s nothing special, but I find it so very relaxing.

Tracy, know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family this week.  I know this week will be a difficult one for all of you, and I also know that laughter and sharing is a big part of your family dynamics and I can just imagine the glue parents (her nick name for her parents…..long story…..lol), your brother and you sitting around the kitchen table….perhaps with a glass of wine….and just sharing, remembering and loving the amazing woman your Grandmother was.

Color my world

Standard

Hey there my blogging family.  I pulled out my paints again this evening and did I have fun!!  I didn’t look at Pinterest first….I didn’t look at anyone else’s art journal’s or canvas’.  I decided I would try to create something all from within my own little head.  I’d been thinking about rainbows and decided to go with that theme.  I honestly had soooo much fun with this one and just slapping down paint onto the canvas sheet.  I tried not to think about it too much and just go with it.  I was much more relaxed than I usually am when I paint, as far as what I was going to do, which really kinda surprised me as I’m always over thinking everything I do….lol.

IMG_2026

I had alot of fun when I decided to splatter some paint onto the canvas as well using my fan brush (thanks Limor for that tip!) and when I was done….I realized a little lesson learned about splattering…..

IMG_2023

—-don’t spatter paint next to your lap top with the lid open…..Ooppsss.  It’s a good thing acrylic paints wash off easily!  LOL.

I did some doodling on it as well to finish it off and yup…..I’m actually kinda liking it!  I used a stencil for the mail part of the title….but didn’t have letters big enough for the word Color, so I just free-handed it with a paint brush.  I painted all the letters on with white paint first and then went back over them with the black and the colors.  I traced around the letters with my Elmer’s Painters pens for the black and my Uni paint pen for the white.  I’m really enjoying these pens……once I figured out how they worked….I’m such a dork sometimes….lol.

I’m off to have a cup of tea before I go to bed…..thanks once again for stopping by….I very much appreciate it!

Yvonne
