Believe in something absurd….

Believe in something absurd….

Every once in a while I find an artist that really speaks to me and I’m drawn to anything and everything she creates.  Marta Lapkowska is that artist for me.  Here’s a link to one of her pages on her blog Maremi SmallArt and here’s a link to her amazing YouTube channel by the same name….Maremi SmallArt.  She takes the most unique things from her art studio and includes them in her art journal pages and scrapbook layouts.  You truly have to go check her out if you at all love Mixed Media and texture.  🙂

This evening I had been cutting up an old top I had to actually use some of the material in upcoming art journal pages.  As I was cutting the seams out and tossing them in the garbage I thought of Marta and wondered if those seams were something she would probably have kept.  I dug them out of the garbage and started adhering them to a new page in my upcycled encyclopedia I’ve been using.  I applied a light layer of gesso just in the middle of the pages and then grabbed my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle and a homemade honeycomb stencil and added some texture to the two pages.  I’ve had the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Mad Hatter set for some time now and haven’t really used many of the colors.  They’re very bold and I tend to stick to the more muted earth tones or pastel type colors.  There is a color called Tweedle Dee Denim which is a dark denim blue color that I don’t think I’ve ever used yet!  I decided to pair it up with the Tea Party Purple, which I’ve used allot and it’s almost gone, and see what the two would look like on a page.

Uh huh……I LOVED IT!!!!  This just may be my new favorite color combo!  Check out the page!

I love, LOVE how the two colors married into each other and this picture honestly doesn’t even do it pages justice!  the quote is from a Dylusions set called ‘Quintessential Quotes’ by Ranger.  All of the supplies I used on these pages came from Limor Webber Designs on-line store.  I’ll have a list of products and links to the store at the end of this post.

Here are a few close ups of the pages…..

It’s really too bad the camera doesn’t pick up the oh so subtle shimmer from the Tea Pot Purple Starburst spray.

So, there it is!!  Thanks for coming in and checking out my newest page.  I love when you leave me comments on your thoughts about my work.  Until next time……

If the young only knew…..

If the young only knew…..

On a roll!!  We decided to stay home this weekend instead of going to the cabin.  Our oldest grandson had a hockey tournament today so we decided we’d go watch him play.  He’s 5 and it’s so cute watching them play and try their hardest to skate, handle the puck, pass and shoot while trying to stay upright on their skates.  He sure enjoys it.

After being in a creative slump for a few weeks it just felt so good to sit and create last evening and today.  I had started a double page in my up-cycled encyclopedia I’d picked up at our local Thrift Store and am having so much fun with it.  I had covered the background with a couple of colors of water color and did not like it at all.  I had a few bottle of Tim Holtz Distress Paint and thought, why not?!  Give it a try….there’s always Gesso.  ;o)

I used two colors, Fired Brick and Tarnished Brass.  Added them both fairly liberally to the pages, spritzed it with some water and let the two run together and create these awesome drippage marks.  I adhered my two images I’d fussy cut from some Designer paper, used one of my favorite Prima Stencils (#575946) with my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle to both pages and spritzed it with two colors of Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays, Steampunk Sepia and Dark Chocolate Truffle.  Once it was dried, I added some Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel in just a few places to add yet more texture and shimmer.  Stamped my quote from the Dylusions set called Quintessential Quote by Ranger using my Nougat FAber Castell PITT artist big brush pen as the stamping ink.  I quite like how this turned out after all.

This page took a few turns in the making, but am happy with the final result.

Comments are always appreciated.

Creating for the soul….

Creating for the soul….

Creating in my art journal is one of those things that is so calming for the soul.  I’m not sure exactly what it is, but it just has a way of making my heart smile.  I’m loving my new Faber Castell Steampunk Gelato set.  The colors blend and meld together so beautifully.  Another page created with supplies from Limor Webber Designs on-line store.  I started out with using all the bits and pieces of paper I had on my desk.  I even found a narrow strip of canvas I stuck on too. I then took my Prima “Bubbles” stencil and some Faber Castell Whipped Spackle (one of my absolute favorite products) and my Catalyst Shaper Tool (my favorite tool from the store…. 😉  ) I adhered my Tim Holtz gears, the key and the quote tile.  Next a layer of gesso to tone down some of the colors of my scrap papers I used.  Then the layers of Gelato’s.  Gelato then water, more Gelato, more spritz’s of water.  A bunch of splatters.  Used some of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Dark Chocolate Truffle starburst spray through an alpha stencil and splattered some of that on the page and let it drip too.  I used my Faber Castell Big Brush pen in black and white to highlight some of the circles (love those pens too…..lol) and finally used some of my Tim Holtz rub on’s and just put them on randomly on the page. I toned down the darkness of the rub on’s with a little gesso just so they weren’t so start black.  Finished off the page with some black Gelato around the edges and along some of the paper strips I’d started out with to add some additional texture to the page and I was done!

Here’s what the finished page looks like!

Here’s a few close ups of some of the elements.

Thanks for poking your head in….till next time!

55th birthday ‘year’ party and getting back to an Art Journal page…

55th birthday ‘year’ party and getting back to an Art Journal page…

Soooo…….what do you do when you’re put in a situation where you have an opportunity to spend the weekend with people you never hung around with in high school to celebrate your 55th birthday ‘year’ at a weekend party?? You make your husband decide if we’re going or not of course….lol!!   Then when he decides you’re going, what do you do??  You put a smile on your face and agree to go of course!   To say I was excited to be going would be a lie.  To say I was a little nervous and apprehensive about going would be an understatement. I wouldn’t re-live my high school years for a million dollars.  I’d survived the party we’d gone to 5 years before for the 50th birthday ‘year’ party without any scars…..lol.  Sooo, we went.  I can say with complete honestly I actually had a good time.  I got to know these people a little bit more.  It’s funny how your outlook on how you perceive people to still be after 35 years can change.  I only wanted to run away once and that’s when they were reading through the year book and got to my name…..lol.  But I made it through that as well and am now looking forward to our next milestone.  Here’s to another 5 years and our 60th in Palm Springs!!

Okay, so enough about high school…….it seems like it’s been so long since I pulled out one of my Art Journals.  I have to say it felt so good to pull out those supplies and just sit and let it flow.  I’ve been making allot of ATC’s lately, which have been fun, but my bigger pages is where I get my best feelings of just doing what I love to do. So, here’s what I created the other day with supplies from Limor Webber’s on-line store called Limor Webber Desings.    I used one of her new Lindy’s Stamp Gang sets called Tres Chic and used the sprays and a few of the embossing powders over Gesso.  Love, love, LOVE this set!  Here’s the page I created which I’m going to enter into the Lindy’s Stamp Gang monthly color challenge:

My inspiration for the page came from a YouTube video I watch by Maremi SmallArt located here.

Supplies used were:  Faber Castell Whipped Spackle, Prima stencil called Bubbles by Finnabair (no longer in stock), a couple of her background stamps from both the Dina Wakely Textures set and one of the Big Red stamps called Quantum Background.  All of these supplies are also available in her store and I added direct links to each product at the end of the blog post.  The black drips were done with some Liquitex ink! in Carbon Black that is also in the store.  The Prima bling I used I received from her in one of her destash grab boxes she sold along with the Prima flowers  and the Scrap FX and Fab Scraps chipboard used.  Here’s a few close up’s of the page:
