If the young only knew…..

On a roll!!  We decided to stay home this weekend instead of going to the cabin.  Our oldest grandson had a hockey tournament today so we decided we’d go watch him play.  He’s 5 and it’s so cute watching them play and try their hardest to skate, handle the puck, pass and shoot while trying to stay upright on their skates.  He sure enjoys it.

After being in a creative slump for a few weeks it just felt so good to sit and create last evening and today.  I had started a double page in my up-cycled encyclopedia I’d picked up at our local Thrift Store and am having so much fun with it.  I had covered the background with a couple of colors of water color and did not like it at all.  I had a few bottle of Tim Holtz Distress Paint and thought, why not?!  Give it a try….there’s always Gesso.  ;o)

I used two colors, Fired Brick and Tarnished Brass.  Added them both fairly liberally to the pages, spritzed it with some water and let the two run together and create these awesome drippage marks.  I adhered my two images I’d fussy cut from some Designer paper, used one of my favorite Prima Stencils (#575946) with my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle to both pages and spritzed it with two colors of Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays, Steampunk Sepia and Dark Chocolate Truffle.  Once it was dried, I added some Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel in just a few places to add yet more texture and shimmer.  Stamped my quote from the Dylusions set called Quintessential Quote by Ranger using my Nougat FAber Castell PITT artist big brush pen as the stamping ink.  I quite like how this turned out after all.

Thank you to my GIRLFRIENDS…

Thank you to my GIRLFRIENDS…

It’s challenge time over on the Mixing It Up Everyday Facebook group.  My friend Sandee is the creator of this page and we do have allot of fun.  I actually won the October challenge and won a gift certificate to Stampendous.  I was pretty excited about that!  This month’s challenge is to do a project around the theme of being thankful.  I decided to take a bit of a different twist to the thankful theme…..I have some napkins I’ve been wanting to try on a page for some time and this just seemed to be the time…..and the quote just sort of fit in to this month’s theme…..well, at least in my mind it did.  ;o)

I used my up cycled encyclopedia again for this double page journal page.  I’m seriously loving this book. I started out by putting a light wash over the pages using my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Flat Shot from the Under the Boardwalk collection called Pop Rock Purple.  I then put a light coat of the Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gesso over as it’s a thinner Gesso and works very well for a wash look.  I took my Faber Castell PITT artist big brush pen in Cold Grey III and one of my Stampers Anonymous background stamps from the Graph & Croc set and randomly stamped on both pages.  I really like the subtle look the Cold Grey pen gives to the background stamps.  I then took my napkin and adhered it to the pages using my Faber Castell Gel Medium.

Next I took my Faber Castell Whipped Spackle and my  homemade brick stencil and my Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil and applied it randomly to the page.  I shaded the bricks in and around the napkin pieces with my Stabilo All pencil and blended it out.

IMG_3824 IMG_3823

Added my quote using my Signo white gel pen, some Faber Castell Gelato in black around the edges of the pages and done!

Thank you for the challenges Sandee and for keeping the group in order…..or trying to at least!

Thank you also for dropping in and I look forward to seeing you next time as well.  Please feel free to leave me any comments.  Enjoy your day!

Huggss,

Yvonne.

Dream….

Dream….

When it comes to my art I have allot of dreams. So many things I’d like to try.  I’m going to be one busy girl during my retirement!!

This evening I decided to try my hand at a canvas again.  I found a 12 x 12 canvas and had an idea…..well, sort of.  I knew I wanted to use my new Lindy’s Stamp Gang Under The Boardwalk sprays, I wanted to use the new Prima flowers I’d bought and I wanted to use my Prima Vintage Trinkets clock face.  Past that…..I didn’t have a clue!!!

I started by putting down some strips of drywall mesh tape and some strips of textured ribbon I’d received in one of my destash boxes from Limor.  I used my Gel Medium for this.  I knew I wanted to use my Prima Bubbles stencil as well so I didn’t want a lot of other texture.

IMG_3802

I put a coat of Gesso over the brown lace and added another strip of white lace and then sprayed the canvas with the Orange Creamsicle, Merry-Go-Round Green and Tile-A-Wheel Teal.  I gave it a couple of coats and let the colors blend just a little and heat set it.

IMG_3803

Then I added all my flowers and embellishments.  This was fun and just a bit intimidating at the same time.  Put them on….take them off…..add a little hear….remove a little there.  I’m not sure if I’ll ever get to a place where I’m confident in what I do….lol

So, here’s some close ups of the finished piece and some showing the texture of the canvas:

I do like the texture and depth to the canvas.  Here’s what the finished piece looks like:

Now I think I need another couple sets of those flowers….lol.  They’re just sooooo pretty!  I’ve got a list of products used at the end.  I always appreciate comments.

A little Paris?

A little Paris?

This is now the second time I’m doing this post from the start……ugh.  I had it all completed and closed it down and it didn’t save…..:::insert sad emoticon here:::  lol.  So, here we go again!!

I’ve been really enjoying working in my recycled encyclopedia art journal lately.  I don’t know if it’s the size of the pages or the fact that I LOVE the book, but it’s my go to journal lately.  I’d received my new set of Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays yesterday and mixed them up at noon so I could come home and just start playing with them.  I received the Under The Boardwalk Flat Fabios that Limor Webber created…..and I have to say they’ve been added to my favorite sets….right along with her Tres Chic and Industrial Chic sets.  That woman knows how to create a pretty amazing color palette.

I started out on these pages by putting a light layer of Gesso over both pages.  Once that was dry I took my Orange Creamsicle, Merry-Go-Round Green and Tilt-A-Wheel Teal and sprayed them randomly on both pages and heat set them.  I then took a sort of ruler Stampin’ Up! background stamp I’ve had in my stash for a while and stamped it randomly on both pages using my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Stampers PITT Big Brush Pen in Cold Grey III.  This is my new favorite big brush pen…..LOVE the oh so subtle image it leaves.

IMG_3796

I decided to cut out the two main images from my paper napkin and adhered the Eiffel Tower and the stone building to the pages using my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gel Medium and heat set it as well.  I then took my new Prima “Bubbles” Stencil  and my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle and applied it to random areas using my favorite tool, the Catalyst Shaper Tool “01 Mini”.  I gave that a heat set and then did some shading with my Stabillo All charcoal pencil around some of the bubbles.

IMG_3798 IMG_3797

I also took the charcoal pencil to my two napkin images as I thought they were a little too subtle on the page and I really like the result I achieved!

IMG_3800 IMG_3799

I took my Dina Wakley Media “Handwritten Quotes” stamp set and chose two quotes to stamp, one on each page.  I used my Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Stampers PITT Big Brush pen in black as my ink for the stamps.  I love the vivid black this India Ink pen gives you.  I then used the Cold Grey one again to distress the edges of both pages and I’m done!!  I’m really happy with the finished product and really like this double page spread.IMG_3795

I love the the soft colors and the depth the charcoal pencil adds to the page.  I’m thinking I’m going to take the page on the right a re-create it on a canvas.

A list of the products I used and links back to Limor’s store are at the end of this blog post.  Thanks for staying with me!

A new Art Journal journey….

A new Art Journal journey….

Well, I’ve finally completed my first full art journal and have started a new one.  I’ll post the final pictures of the first one another day.  This new journal is being done in a beautiful old encyclopedia I picked up at our local Good Will store.  I absolutely LOVE the from cover and spine of this book……the texture and ‘sculpting’ on the front cover is amazing!!  The pages inside are relatively thick so I only need to glue two pages together to give me a good solid base to do my mixed media on.  This is what the front cover and spine look like….

IMG_3749IMG_3750

Isn’t it gorgeous??!!!!

When I was at Limor’s place a few weekends ago, I picked up some Prima Art Basics Heavy Gesso in black.  I’ve always wanted to play with and try black, and decided to make this the first page I completed in this new journal.  I started out with one idea while I was in Edmonton, but it just wasn’t working out the way I had it in my head and ended up coming home and just Gessoing over it….hence why I love Gesso!  Then I decided I wanted to try a sort of water color effect and put down a very light layer of white Gesso so I’d have an area to stamp my poppies onto.  I used two of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals and used them as water colors.  I used the a Flat Magical in Aloha Avacado and a shimmer Magical in Time Travel Teal.  I used a couple of my background stamps that I’d picked up from Limor’s store as well just to add a bit more depth to the pages.  All of the supplies I used on this double page can be purchased from Limor’s store, except for the poppy stamp which I’ve had for a while from Stampin’ Up! The link for her store is found here.  Other supplies I used were my Faber Castell PITT artist pen big brush in black, my Faber Castell PITT artist pen in white, and my Stabilo All pencil for some shading around the flowers, stems and quote.  Here’s what the finished product looks like:

I really like how these pages turned out.  Will probably use this technique again!

Thanks for popping your head in…..until next time!  I’d love to hear what you think.  🙂
