One of the cards we did at our Stampin’ Up! demo night was the faux silk technique using tissue paper. This is such a cool technique and so easy to do! And depending on whether you want a vibrant or a more muted effect, you can stamp your image onto your cardstock or directly onto the tissue paper. Depending on the look you’re after, either option is a great choice.
The card base is made using Old Olive cardstock. We started by cutting out a piece of tissue paper slightly larger than the piece of Whisper White cardstock. The image was from the Fabulous Florets set and was stamped in Old Olive and Concord Crush inks. It’s VERY important you let the images competely dry before you continue. If you don’t the inks will smudge and you’ll be starting over! Depending on the look you’re going for you would either stamp your images onto your cardstock or directly onto the tissue paper. Once the image is completely dry, take the tissue paper and scrunch it into a tight, tight ball……like your going to make a spit ball…..lol. Very carefully unscrunch it but don’t smooth it out or you’ll lose the effect for the faux silk. Take the Stampin’ Up! anywhere glue stick, which by the way is a fantastic glue stick cause it’s rectangle in shape and so easy to use to get total coverage on your cardstock. Cover your entire piece of Whisper White cardstock with the glue stick being sure to get all around the edges so the tissue paper won’t curl back or fold over on you. Taking your piece of tissue paper and starting in the middle, ‘tap’ it onto the cardstock. If you rub it on you’ll smooth out the wrinkles and again will lose the effect for the faux silk. Now depending on how many wrinkles you want (I like allot of wrinkles in the finished product) will dictate how much you ‘tap’ your piece of tissue paper onto the cardstock. Be sure to get it tapped down all over the cardstock, especially the edges so it adheres properly and won’t curl up or fold over. Once you have it looking the way you want it, trim the excess tissue paper away from the cardstock and adhere to a strip of Old Olive cardstock. Taking two narrow strips of Concord Crush cardstock, use the Scallop Trim Border to create a border frame and attach to each side of the Old Olive cardstock strip. Attach this to the front of your card and ta da!!! The sentiments were stamped onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and then centered into the large oval punch and punched out. Attach your sentiment to a piece of Concord Crush that was punched out using the Scallop Oval punch. Decide on the placement of your sentiment and attach to your card front! You’re done and have an awesome card with a great technique! This is one technique I can see myself using over and over again……easy peasy and it looks great!!
Okay…..off to do another post for the next card……getting tired of them yet?? teehee…..I’m loving this!!!
