Memories…

I had so much fun playing with the Vaseline technique Limor Webber taught us that I just had to try it one more time, but on a canvas this time. Here’s a link to her Ustream class where she taught us the technique if you’re interested.  Art Journaling With Limor Webber.  I wanted to do a quote type of canvas with this one and am a bit on the fence with it.  Not sure I should have put the faux screws on it….and if so, not sure I should have put paint on each one of them.  Oh well…..one more thing to tuck into the ‘things I’ve learned’ vault.  ;o)

I used my Liquitex Basics Acrylic paints for this and used the colors Burnt Umber, Bright Aqua Green, Unbleached Titanium and Titanium White.  I mixed a batch of the Titanium White with the Unbleached Titanium White to make a lighter shade for the last coat.  I hand-wrote out the quote using my Pilot PermaBall pen.  I attached some Prima Free Spirit Wood Embellishments and Prima Tiny Junkyard Findings screws.

Here are some close ups of the embellishments and the layers of paint:

And here’s the final canvas.

There is a local new store in town that is specializing in antiques and vintage looking merchandise.  She’s asked me to bring her some canvas’s and she’ll sell them.  We’ll see how well the last two canvas’s I made sell…..lol.  It would be the first time I’d ever sold anything but a card.  Not going to hold my breath.  ;o)

Thanks for coming by again…..until next time.  Please feel free to leave me comments, as I do appreciate them.  ❤

Huggss,

Yvonne

Dream……

Dream……

Dreaming of what I’d like to do one day……there are allot of things on my list.  One of my biggest dreams is to get to a point where I could apply and be accepted to join a Design Team.  I was on a Design Team for a local on-line scrapbooking supply store a few years ago and had a blast.  To get onto some of the big name DT’s you have to have a blog following, an active YouTube channel with followers…..all things I dream of making happen again one day.  I haven’t recorded a YouTube tutorial for a while now and need to get a tripod in order to produce them on a more professional basis…..another thing I dream of having happen.  🙂

Here’s a page I did this afternoon that I really love!!  There are a few of my pages and projects I create that I really love, and this is one of them.  I’m very happy with how it turned out.  I used a bunch of supplies from Limor Webber’s online store called Limor Webber Designs.  I LOVE her store and she carries the absolute coolest and versatile products!!  If you’ve never paid her a visit, you really need to. For this page, the background was created by first of all adhering random torn pieces from my old dictionary using my Matte Gel medium.  I then put on a layer of Gesso over it and wiped it back off the book pages for the most part.  I tool two of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals called Tiffanylou’s Blue and Cotton Candy Pink. I used the blue first and I took a small amount and put it on my craft mat and spritzed it with water to make a water color.  I added more water and then allowed it to drip off my craft mat onto my page before the Gesso was dry.  I tipped it page up and added more spritz’s of water to make the color drip down the page. I added a bit more powder to my craft mat, more water and added brush strokes here and there to have more of the page covered in the color.  The rest of the mixture I again allowed to pour over the page and I added a bit more water to make it a bit more concentrated at the top of the page.  I heat set the page and then added the pink onto the page only using a brush to apply the color.  Once that was dry I took one of my new 6×6 Prima stencils (item #575946) called Stone Wall, my Faber Castell Gelato in Squid Ink, a stencil brush and applied the stencil to the page.  Loved the subtle pattern I obtained with this stencil.  I then took my new Indigo Blu Bubbles Background stamp and my Faber Castell PITT Big Brush pen in black and used that to ink a portion of the stamp and used it randomly around the page.  I took a piece of corrugated cardboard and dry brushed on some Gesso, heat set it….some of the blue and pink magicals that I once again mixed into a water color paint and dried it once again with the heat gun.  I had fussy cut three butterflies from a piece of designer paper I had from BoBunny and adhered the cardboard and the butterflies to the page. I added one of the Prima Junkyard Findings clock faces to the cardboard.  I took my Stabilo All pencil and traced around some of the bubbles, applied a small amount of water and created some depth and emphasis to some of the bubbles I’d stamped onto the page.  LOVE that pencil!!  I used the “dream’ sticker from my Heidi Swapp sticker package and outlined it with my Pilot PermaBall pen.  I distressed the edges of the page with my black Faber Castell Gelato and it was done!

2nd Canvas……

2nd Canvas……

Venturing into the land of creating a canvas is freaking scary!!!   This took me 4 days to complete and I doubted myself every step of the way.  Creating an Art Journal page is one thing…..but a canvas…..that I was hoping to be able to hang up once I had it completed.  YIKES!!!  I used a bunch of supplies from Limor Webber’s Store, with my newest favorite supply being the Liquitex White Opaque Flakes Texture Gel……I’m really loving this stuff!!  There’s a few layers to this piece and I  love the texture I ended up with!!

Here’s the completed canvas…..

IMG_3343

I wish the camera would pick up the texture better.  I also inked the edges of the word “LOVE” in the bottom corner so it would stand out a bit more.  I used allot of Prima flowers & embellishments, some Fab Scraps. I Am Roses flowers, other misc embellishments from my stash and from the grab boxes I ordered from Limor’s store a while ago, random strips of paper along with some Tim Holtz Tissue Paperand of course my trusted Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays in Cotton Candy Pink, Toto’s Tornado Black and Golden Doublooms.

Here’s a few close ups:

Thanks so much for dropping in…..I very much appreciate it.

Making the old new again

Standard

This is leaving it to the last minute I tell you! !!  I created this for the challenge over on Limor Webber’s FB group.   She challenged us to follow the color challenge over on Lindy’s Stamp Gang blog.   This was an old canvas I’d purchased a few years ago and didn’t like it anymore.   I Gesso’d over it and covered the entire thing in lace and then added a layer of Gesso over the lace.   I used a few different colors of Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays:  Cheshire Cat Cherry,  T-bird Turquoise, Brushed Nickle, Toto’s Tornado Black.   Some Dusty Attic honey comb cupboard,  some Prima trinkets, butterfly and flowers,  some I Am Roses flowers.   I had fun putting this together.   Here’s what it looks like!

Dipping into my Prima vault

Standard

I was on Skype with Limor this evening and decided I needed to create something while she cleaned her studio.  I decided to grab some of the yummy goodies I’d received in my Prima package I’d ordered and actually use them instead of hoarding them.   I started out with a couple of pieces of 12×12 paper from the Londonerry Collection called “Parlor Games’ and ‘Courier’.   I ripped a few pieces off the paper and adhered them kind of all over my page using my Golden Matte Medium.  Although you can’t really see those papers on the page anymore…..they add great texture.  I also opted not to Gesso this page before I started as I wanted my Lindy’s sprays to remain they’re bright colors and not look faded out.  I then took some……okay, a lot of my Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays and used a couple from the Mad Hatter set along with a few other sprays as I went along and just started to spray.  I started with the Tea Pot Purple, the Cheshire Cat Cherry and the Mad Hatter Mint.  I really loved the look of the Tea Pot Purple and the Cheshire Cat Cherry…..wasn’t too keen on the look of the Mad Hatter Mint for this page.  I opted for one of my favorite Flat Fabio’s called Luscious Lime  and that gave me the pop I was looking for.  I applied layer after layer and dried between each one until I arrived at the intensity I was looking for.  I have a bunch of 12 x 12 papers that have been cut into different designs that I’ve been using as stencils.  I believe they’re intended purpose if to be an overlay of some sort on a page, but I could never see myself using them for that, so I just use them as stencils.  It had a flower design and I applied some Modeling paste to the page in a few random places and heat set it.  Some of the colors from the sprays ran through the paste and I was fine with that as I wanted more the texture than all the white paste look.  I took another stencil, a 6×6 one I’d made using my Cricut to cut it out, with a sort of little triangle shapes all over it and filled in a couple of the bare spaces.  Again, some of the sprays bled through.

I took my Stazon ink and a couple of my Kaisercraft stamps called Flutter and 36 and randomly stamped those images onto the page to give it a bit more depth.

Next I took some of my chipboard pieces and colored them with my Lindy’s sprays.  The tree branch with the bird I can’t remember where I got it from, and I used Dark Chocolate Truffle to color in the branch and used Cheshire Cat Cherry, Caribbean Blue and the Luscious Lime to color in the two birds.  The birdcage, which is from Dusty Attic, was colored using my Crow’s Nest Copper color shot.  I also used that same color shot to color in the medallion chipboard at the top of the page…..again, I’m not sure who makes that particular chipboard as I received it in a swap and can’t remember who she said had made it.  The little rose and bling clusters along the branches were from a Prima ‘Say It In Crystals’ set.  The three dangle charms are Prima Vintage Trinkets and the flower vines are also from Prima and were called Gracie Vine. (I cut it into two – a Limor trick) in order to use it in both corners.

I outlined the edge of the page, and around all the chipboard pieces with some black Gelato.  I’m really starting to love my black Gelato and rarely take my charcoal pencil out anymore.   I think this is the first Art Journal page where I didn’t journal anything on it!

So, here’s what the finished page looks like:

So. there you have it…..I’m trying hard to use my favorite things on my pages instead of hoarding them forever.  It’s getting easier, but still a way to go!

I’m off now…..thanks for sticking with me through three posts in one day!!!  I feel better now.  😉

Friendship……

Standard

Hello blog friends…..I’ve just been on a creative marathon it seems!!  My good friend Kathy over on SCS hosted our challenge for last week on our ‘Mix It Up’ thread.  We were to go to the resource section on SCS and choose something from there to do.  I hadn’t been to the resource section in a while so I was excited to see what new things I could learn.  It didn’t take me long to find just the project to work on as I wanted something to make for a very dear friend and was looking for some inspiration…..I just need to ask myself though…..why do I pick these projects to do when I have a timeline and dealine to follow and I start it the night before it’s due…you would think I’d learn……you would think.  Ya.  This is a project that’s a little bigger than a card……so I have the funny feeling this will be a long blog post……better go grab a coffee or something…..lol.

It’s an acordian ‘folder’ made from a file folder.  You can find the instructions here, Accordian File Folder.  I’ve had those swirly rhinestones with the combination of bling, pearls and raised roses for some time now and have just never found anything to put them on……this fit the bill perfectly!  They’re made by Prima and are from their “Say It In Crystals’ line.  All of the designer paper I used on this project was from Creative Imiginations and I love this paper.  It’s in the rich earth tones which I love and every piece I bought had a butterfly or butterflies on it. I bought a few of each sheet when I found it cause I knew it would be one I’d gravitate to a few times.  There is only one sheet of designer paper made by Prima from their “Moulin Rouge Collection – Celest”

Isn’t that metal butterfly gorgeous?!  It’s from a set made by Blue Moon Beads and I love this set.  It comes with 4 of these beauties, all a little different and in 4 sizes.  I used a few of them in this project.  the parchment paper sentiment is from a set made by Creative Memories.  It’s their Nancy O’Dell Collection and called ‘expressions of life’ and it is sooo versatile.  You’ll see a few of the sentiments on this little folder.  I tore around the word Friendship and then inked around the edges with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.

Here’s the whole folder opened up.  It has 4 ‘pockets’ with little tags in each one and all decorated up!!  The whole folder was inked around all the edges and folds with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.  I love the definition that’s created when you ink around the edges of a piece of paper.  This was allot of fun to put together……it just took a long time!!

Here’s the first pocket with the tag sticking up out of it.  The ‘tag’ I have attached to the top of this tag is a two piece set that I’ve had for so many years I don’t know where it came from anymore.  It’s a cardstock tag with an acetate sheet overlay that has light grey print on it to create the black distressed edge, the butterfly overtop of the fern leaf and the post office paris stamp on it.  The brad I used to hold it on is from Close To My Heart and from the Filigree Charms set…. (love that set of charms and brads).  The ‘jewelled’ piece up on the right hand side at the top of the main tag is from a bobby pin hair accessory I found at the local Dollar Store and just detached it from the bobby pin.  I love those hair accessories!!  The pic on the right is of the pocket itself.  that gorgeous vintage looking metal flower is from my good friend Lynn (FMcrafater) on SCS.  I finally brought myself to start using these little treasures she sent me instead of hording them and just drolling over them from time to time…..lol.

The second folder and tag.  This tag has a sentiment from the Creative Memories Nancy O’Dell collection again.  Torn and inked around the edges with my Vintage Photo distress ink.  All the tags have various strands of fibres linked through the hole in the top of the tag.  I love the look of the barb-wire scroll on the desginer paper on this tag…..

Here’a close up on the left of a beautiful little trinket my friend Lisa (Ashdale) sent me a while ago.  I love this thing and just thought it was a perfect addition to this tag.  On the right is the pocket for this section of the folder.   That little jewelled beauty on the top is another hair accessory that I just took the pliers to and detached from the clip.  The sentiment is from my Creative Memories set again and the cameo is from a set made by Making Memories and their Vintage Groove II series.   Sentiment inked with the Vintage Photo too.

Section #3!  The tag has another parchment sentiment from my Creative Memories set and I’ve attached another one of my metal butterflies.  I also added a pearl scroll from Want2Scrap and their ‘Say it with Pearls’ line.  I also added three pearl drops on the right hand top corner from Making Memories.

There’s a close up on the left of the sentiment, pearl swirl and that wonderful little metal butterfly.  On the right is the pocket for this section of the folder.  Three more pearl drop hearts for the top right corner and another embellishment I’ve had for some time and I’m pretty sure it was a Prima set.   There’s more of that designer paper with the barb-wire swirls and butterlfy on it.

Here’s the last section of the folder and my favorite sentiment!!  Another one of my metal buterflies and some swirly bling on the bottom of the sentiment, which was inked with my vintage photo, peeled paint and broken china.  I love how these inks blend together so well and make for a subtle hue on the parchment paper.

Man I love those butterflies!!!  The pocket for this last section has a tag that I pop dotted up and again, from a sheet I’ve had forever and don’t know where it’s from.  The beautiful butterfly on this pocket is from a sheet of them I picked up from Walmart and I don’t have the outer packaging!!!  Oh well……

So, there you have it.  Hubby apparantely thinks I need to feed him now, so I’m off to throw some chow into the oven.  Thanks so much for popping in……I love to have you!!

Huggsss,

Yvonne   😉
