Circle crazy….

Day 13!!!  So, my little man and my niece left this morning to head back home.  I’m sure going to miss that little guy!  It didn’t take long for him to steal my heart.

20150514_082037[1]

I have another page in my little recipe booklet art journal to share.  This one was a fun technique that I learned in one of Limor Webber Mixed Media Creative Club video tutorials a few months ago and I’ve gone back to it a few times since that time.  I won’t go into allot of detail as it was a paid class.   I do love the layers on this piece and the couple of Izink colors I have really pop on this page.  That Yellow is to die for.

There it is…..short and sweet.  No journaling on it,  I’m hoping to be able to find time to blog this weekend…..that is the plan!  I’m sure with three of my grandbabies up there I should have no shortage of things to blog about.

Till tomorrow.

Day #12.  This was the last evening with my niece and her little guy.  He’s such a sweetheart and I’m going to miss them both!!  He’s such an easy kid to have around.  I snuck some snuggles and  pictures in and even got a bit of a smile….blurry picture of course….but it’s a smile!!

20150513_213143     20150513_213226    20150513_213234

I’ll get more snuggles with this little man in Sept…..although he’ll probably be walking by then and I’ll have to chase him down to get the snuggles.

The page I’m going to share today is one I did last year and was the first page I created in my little recipe booklet art journal.  It was my first kick at the can at trying to do a collage with magazine images.  I colored the background with acrylic paints and then started to pick out my images and finishing them off with some doodling.  This was a fun page to do and I quite liked it when it was all done.  Added some background stamps and some scribbles.  Did some shading with my Stabilo All pencil….

20150513_220904

20150513_221153

Even put a UPC symbol on the page….lol.  Some punched circles from one of my magazine pages.  There’s allot  going on with this page!!

20150513_221126

It’s funny, when I look at this page I remember choosing the words and phrases to go on it and thinking they’d be my mantra.  To be “Extraordinary Everyday”.  That I was an “Inspiring Artist”.  I’d like to think I”m “Strong”.  I put a “piece of myself” in every creation I make.  And often, my page will “set the mood” for whatever I’m going through at that time.  Do I hit the mark everyday…..depends what my inner critic is telling me.  Sometimes I feel Extraordinary….sometimes not so much.  I think I’ll always be an Inspiring Artist….lol.  And I’m probably Stronger than I think.  Pretty fitting cover I think.

Okay, that’s it for today.  We’re headed off to the cabin this weekend with our oldest and his family so I’m thinking I should have lots to blog about this weekend.  Until tomorrow…..peace out!

Day #11.  This is the page I was going to blog about yesterday…..and then got sidetracked with grandbabies and great nephews….which I would take any day….lol.  They all just had so much fun together.  :o)  ❤

This is a page I did some time ago and just never got around to blogging about.  I created it when I was down visiting Limor Webber in Edmonton on weekend last September.  We had so much fun that weekend….lol.

I had a chance to play with some of her Dina Wakely paints which were fun and I loved the bright vibrant colors!  I used a bubble stencil…..some Faber Castell Whipped Spackle, background stamps and a saying off a piece of scrapbook paper I’d found at one of the stores while I was there.

Gotta love a good charcoal pencil and some ink splatter to finish off a page.  ;o)

Here’s the completed page….

I really love the colors in this page…..I’ll have to remember to put these together again one day.

Thanks again for dropping by.  Comments are always appreciated.  🙂

Just the way I am…

Just the way I am…

Day #12. I’ve had my niece and Great Nephew here for a couple of days already and I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying them being here.  And to be able to come down to my studio and play with supplies and have her ‘shop’ in my room of stuff I’m going to purge has been such fun.  She’s a special girl (as all my nieces are) and I’m not taking this visit for granted at all.  I’m so very blessed.  Ethan’s little personality is so stoic. He honestly cracks me up.  He has one look and it’s the cutest look ever.  Even when he cries he really doesn’t cry.  He’s such a content little man and I only wish I had some extra time to take off to be able to spend an entire day with them.

While she was drooling over supplies, I was creating an art journal page in my little recipe book I tore out of a magazine and made into a miniature art journal.  It only has 4 pages in it and I’ve had fun just playing in it.  I found some new napkins at either our Dollar Store or The Bargain Store…and because I don’t have many napkins yet, I thought I better pick them up…..bahahahahaha.

My napkin collection…..

The new ones I just had to have…..

20150512_234232

See!!!!  You totally would have bought them too…..right?!!!

I decided to use the one with the flower on it this evening and then grabbed my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Color Shots and used some of the colors from both sets Limor Webber designed called Tres Chic and Under The Board Walk. I used the c’est la vie cerise, tilt-a-wheel teal and cafe au lait.  Love these and I think tied in with the brown tones in the napkin quite well.  I sprayed some water color paper with some of the Color Shot color and added some water so the color would just start to tun together.  Then I dried it and drew out a few hearts.  I cut them out, distressed the edges and then colored them with one of my Faber Castell PITT artist pen big brush in Nougat 178.  I adhered them to the page using my Golden Regular Gel (Matte), added some cotton embroidery thread and my little quote.  I added more splatters in the three colors and I was done!

Day #10!  I think there will be allot of moments to enjoy this week.  I just happen to have one of my nieces down for a few days with her 10 month old baby who is the cutest!  He’s definitely stolen our hearts this week.  He was greeted by all 5 of my grandchildren this evening……not sure if he wanted to run/crawl away or just lay there and play dead in the hopes they’d leave him alone!!  It was a very loud busy household for a couple of hours but he took it all in stride and never missed a beat…..even when he was being laid on by Dane to give him a hug.  This is my sweet little Great Nephew….

20150510_212555

He had quite the fun afternoon with three of his cousins at the park and and sitting in the little battery operated quad.

And had a blast swinging and the rest of them driving the quad around the park.

By the time I got home from work they were inside and ready to eat!!  We went and picked up the last two grandkids and they all had a blast.  I wouldn’t trade the mayhem and volume for anything.

I know now a very interesting post to most of those who follow me…..but these little people are the most important little souls in my life……my art is a very close second….lol.

Thanks so much for checking in…..until tomorrow.

An amazing Mom

An amazing Mom

Day #9 – and Happy Mothers Day to all Mom’s out there.

I went looking for a picture of my Mom and I had a really hard time finding one of just the two of us!!!  That is something I’m going to have to change this fall when we head to Kelowna for my nephews wedding.  This picture was taken on the front step of the old farm house in Manitoba where my Dad grew up.  We had the amazing opportunity to go and visit this summer at our family reunion.  So many memories….

To say I think I have the best mom is just fact.  She has a strength, faith, love and understanding like no one else I know.  She raised 4 daughters…..that in itself deserves a medal!!  She accepts people for who they are…..no judgments made. I cannot even begin to list all the things she’s done for me and taught me.  She’s nurtured me, taught me, dressed me, held me, shouted at me, kissed me, loved me unconditionally. There’s nothing like my moms hugs…..no matter how old I am. It just seems to make everything better and two provinces away is way too far away sometimes…..so Skype is my best friend.  There are not enough words I can say to describe just how important my mom is to me and what a powerful influence she continues to be in my life.

So, Happy Mother’s Day Mom……. I love my mom to the moon and beyond.

Fall page with White Birch Trees

Standard
Fall page with White Birch Trees

Day #8……I have 43 minutes to get this typed up and submitted!!  Pfft……no problem!

I saved one of those little pull out booklets that come in magazines sometimes.  This one happened to be a little recipe book.  I decided I needed something little to create in and had seen others using magazine type papers to do their mixed media art on and thought….why not?!  If my memory serves me correctly, I think I did this for a challenge one month over in the Facebook group called Mixing It Up Everyday.  My good friend Sandee Setliff started it as a place for people to share whatever they wanted without worrying about rules.  It’s a fun group of women and if you haven’t checked it out you really should!

This was a fall based theme and I wanted to see if I could use my black gesso and create birch trees with some white paint.  It worked!!!  I colored some book paper with some of my alcohol inks and then punched out some leaves with a Matha Stewart branch punch that has little leaves on it……now, that was allot of leaves!!!  I also colored some chipboard letters with my alcohol inks and used some fall colored sort of puffy stickers I had that I didn’t think I’d ever use on anything as I’m not much for stickers….let alone the puffy ones!!  And of course…..some splatters.  Gotta love the look of splatters.  ❤

So, this is what my double page spread looked like!

IMG_3744

Did I mention that was allot of leaves to glue on??

IMG_3743

Lettering I learned from none other than Sandee Setlliff herself…..here’s a link to the YouTube video for her Wonky Letters.

I really like how this turned out.  It lead to other black gesso pages so it must have been a good experiment!!

Choosing to shine

Standard
Choosing to shine

I’m on day number 6 in my #90daysofblogging !!  I’m seriously going to run out of things to blog about!  There may be a few posts where I just ramble…..about nothing…..at all…..hmmmm.

I tried my hand at another magazine collage art journal page.  No prompt cards……just sitting and creating from the heart.  I kind of wanted the background to have a sort of rough textured wall look.  I used my Super Heavy Gesso by Liquitex and applied it with a palette knife to give it the look I was looking for.  I took three of my Liquitex Basics acrylic paints in Burnt Siena, Burnt Umber and Yellow Oxide and used a sponge and applied the paint to cover the background completely.  I adhered the girl onto the page with my Golden Gel Medium.  I wanted to doodle on her and began with just the whispy lines in her hair….one thing lead to another…..and she was covered in dots!!  I quite like it and was okay with the look.  I’m not sure now I should have added the brick stencil….it’s okay, but I’m wondering if I would like it better without the white brick.  I may at some time go back and maybe add some color to them…..or not….lol.  I loved the quote and just felt it really applied to this page, especially with the ray of sunlight beaming across her face.  “If you don’t SHINE you’re just dull.  Choose to SHINE.”  Fitting, don’t you think?!  I’m not one to go out into a room and shine.  I much prefer to ‘observe’.  It’s not that I don’t go and talk to people…..I’m kind of a chatty one when you get me going…..I just don’t like the lime light on me……at all!

Here’s some close ups of the page and the final result….

I love the look of collaged magazine images and there is one artist on YouTube who I love to watch.  I love what she does with her pages and love her style.  Check out her channel!  She goes by PackerDi.

Sassy or sexy?

Day 5!  I can see this is definitely going to be a challenge….but in a good way I hope!!  I’ve been having some fun with my Art Journal Prompt Cards I made and decided to have Karen Burchill join me again for another round.  She dealt herself out 5 of her cards before she came over to my studio and I did the same.  I apparently like to work with only my fingers as I dealt that card out to me again….lol.  Bring on the Gel Medium!!.  The one that really had me a bit worried was the one that instructed me to turn to page 29 of the first magazine I found and use an image from that page.  Did I luck out!!  Here’s the cards I was dealt:

IMG_4276

Colored paper towels I have lots of as I always keep them.  Couldn’t find my cheese cloth so I went and grabbed a gauze bandage from my first aide kit…..shhhhh.  Spent some time peeling Gel Medium from my fingers again….kinda getting good at it!  Karen gave me the idea of adding the color to her eyes and lips and I love it!!  Oh!  And to the wings as the white gauze just didn’t have enough oomph to pop from the page.  I quite like how she turned out….a little sassy sexy maybe?  LOL.  Here’s the completed page:
